(if your not sure how to log into your hosting control panel please visit here)If you have more then one domain name within your account click on the domain you wish to add the 404 error page to. Within the "Web Options" page scroll down and look for the http://www.ixwebhosting.com/support/st_kb/adding-a-custom-error-page-on-a-windows-server/ row with the header "Error". Within the "Error" row click on the "Add" icon. Within the "New Error Document" window select the drop down box within the row "Error Document Code".Within the drop down box select the option "404|Not Found". If you are looking to setup a different error code simply select the error code you are wishing to setup within this step. Within the "Choose the document type" row you have the ability to select what you want to happen if a browser calls for a webpage but it is not found on the server. On a windows server you have ability to select file or to select URL. There are several differences between the two. "File": When you select file you have only the ability to select static error page files. You also have the ability to use the same error page file with other domains but if so the "Path to Custom Error page" has to be relative to the home directory the file is located in. A example of the relative path would be "example-domain.com\error\page.html". "URL": The URL document type allows you to use scripting langauge (php/asp) to create dynamic error pages. These error pages cannot be shared with other sites and has to found in the same directory as the rest of the domain files. But in IIS 7 all requests are processed through the ASP.NET pipeline (assuming you're not in the classic pipeline) so a non-aspx request will hit the web.config as well. In IIS 6, since a request is only passed to the ASP.NET DLL if it is a request for an ASP.NET page, nothing you do in ASP.NET can affect a non-ASP.NET request. Thus the default 404 page. The answer is easy, replace the IIS 404 page with your custom 404 page. Or upgrade your operating system to Server 2008. Jeff Have you Binged a solution before posting?
