When the user types an invalid date string the report throws a rsReportParameterTypeMismatch and displays an error messages like this: An error occurred during local reoprt processing Query Execution Failed for data set 'myDataSet' I want to replace this cryptic (for the final user) message for a more friendly custom message. How or where can I write them? How do I intercept the exception? I don't need anything too complex, just changing the words, perhaps colors and sizes would suffice. I thank thee in advance for thy willingness to help. sql-server sql-server-2005 exception-handling reporting-services share|improve this question edited Nov 11 '10 at 12:16 asked Nov 10 '10 at 18:06 Lynx Kepler 3721420 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote accepted take a look at Custom error pages in Reporting Services 2008 share|improve this answer answered Nov 11 '10 at 13:44 beakersoft 1,21531830 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name Email Post as a guest Name Email discard By posting your answer, you agree to the privacy policy and terms of service. The error message can include technical details that reveal more information than necessary or are potentially confusing or intimidating to a user. One example is the scenario in which the user attempts to export a report from Report Manager http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4147574/how-to-treat-handle-an-exception-and-display-a-custom-error-message-on-reporting using the "Excel designed by OfficeWriter" option, but the report is not created using the OfficeWriter Designer. In this case, SSRS would return the following error: Error SA008050: This report was not designed for the selected OfficeWriter rendering extension. Depending on configuration, Report Manager may also display a detailed error message and a stack trace. In this case, the error message is self-explanatory. However, http://blog.softartisans.com/2013/07/03/kb-how-to-create-a-custom-sql-server-reporting-services-error-page/ often it is desirable to provide a friendly custom error page that hides the technical details of the internal exception and provides more helpful instructions to users. Configuring a custom error page for Report Manager is no different from doing so for other ASP.NET applications. The custom error page is simply a web page that you create. You can configure ASP.NET to display a custom error page to all users. Alternatively, the custom error page can be displayed only to users accessing Report Manager from a remote machine, which is usually the case in production. For users accessing Report Manager from the same machine, the full error would be displayed. Typically, a detailed error message is helpful for debugging purpose during development. Additionally, you can configure a custom error page to be displayed for specific HTTP status codes. For example, the OfficeWriter error above is an internal server error, which results in HTTP status code 500. Solution To configure a custom error page for Report Manager: Browse to Report Manager folder. For SSRS 2005, its typical location is DRIVE:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.x\Reporting Services\ReportManager, where x is the instance For SSRS 2008 and SSRS 2008 R2, DRIVE:\Progr

Thanks & Regards, Kishore Kishore This is the solution : http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/e8ca8a9f-9353-4099-9179-97fd3b39ed50/ssrs-custom-error-messages to Improve the End User Experience : http://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/3023/sql-server-reporting-services-tips-and-tricks-to-improve-the-end-user-experience/ There is no direct event in SSRS to trap exceptions. However there are other methods for tracking error associated with a report. 1. Report Server execution log. i.e Use ReportServer select * from ExecutionLog order by TimeStart DESC 2. Error handling using SSRS SOAP from external application. 3. Custom code error handling.Regards, RSingh This is the solution : http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/e8ca8a9f-9353-4099-9179-97fd3b39ed50/ssrs-custom-error-messages to Improve the End User Experience : http://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/3023/sql-server-reporting-services-tips-and-tricks-to-improve-the-end-user-experience/ Previous Page | SQL Server Reporting Services, Power View | HOME Related Links Contact for Remote Assistance Visual studio 2010 crashes when I try to print SSRS report Could not find permission set named 'ASP.Net' SSRS 2012 web.config caching issue GetReportServerUrl / ManagmentException possiblity to expand / narrow / reset all drillstroughable parts of the report with one button Populate chart using sql query sql server integration services How to Add a column in dsv for report model .Net Providers\SqlClient Data Provider Reporting Services in both SharePoint 2013 connected and native mode?
