When server was re-installed now with customerrors mode= off / not working SBS 2003 SP1 and sharepoint services running I made yet another backup of the empty site and the proceded to restore the backup using stsadmin with url companyweb so it would restore to original location. Restore took a while but reported no errors but now when I browse to companyweb I get this error on the browser> Cannot complete this action. Please try again. and the URL changes to "http://companyweb/_layouts/1033/error.aspx?ErrorText=Cannot+complete+this+action.% 0a%0aPlease+try+again." Is there something I am missing or something I did wrong? SBS 2003 is at microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs This WSS FAQ item http://www.asaris-matrix.com/mvp-walsh/Lists/WSS%20FAQ/DispForm.aspx?ID=201 has a lot of stuff on companyweb (to try to help here before passing you over to the companyweb experts in the SBS newsgroup). The only se,mi-releavnt thing I can find there is this link http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;829112&Product=sbs to an article on How to back up and restore http://Companyweb data in SBS 2003 if reading that doesn't show you

Join them; it only takes a minute: Sign up Setting Response status code causes unwanted error text at top of custom error page up vote 6 down vote favorite UPDATE: http://www.textndata.com/forums/restore-stsadmin-backup-641461.html To ensure that the correct status code is returned to the browser, the error.aspx has this line: <% Response.StatusCode = 500; %> Removing it removes the unwanted text, but I want the correct status code, so I suppose that is the new question...how!? Setting the response status code has the same result: HttpContext.Current.Response.StatusCode = 500; Will update question title. PRE-UPDATE: Due to some legacy code/configuration, we have a slightly unusual custom error pages http://stackoverflow.com/questions/33497092/setting-response-status-code-causes-unwanted-error-text-at-top-of-custom-error-p setup, which handles exceptions in the global.asax and uses Server.Transfer() to present the appropriate .aspx error page, like so: public void Application_Error(object sender, EventArgs e) { // abbreviated to clear out logging and some other logic that determines which error page to show HttpContext.Current.Response.Clear(); HttpContext.Current.Server.ClearError(); var context = HttpContext.Current; if (context != null) { var errorPage = "~/ErrorPages/error.aspx"; context.Server.Transfer(errorPage); } } The issue is that when error.aspx is shown to a remote user an error message (and a new opening body tag...) is prepended to the page, so the first line of the page is unstyled text saying: The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred. Not ideal, and, though perhaps I am Googling the wrong things, it does not seem to be a problem that is well documented or frequently discussed. Any ideas welcome. The error.aspx code is pretty generic but I am happy to post if it might help - please just comment. .net asp.net-mvc global-asax share|improve this question edited Nov 9 '15 at 10:58 asked Nov 3 '15 at 10:44 GP24 440621 Hi @Siva Gopal, I did try that, and various other things. Turned out I needed to set the existingResponse in web.config. See my answer. Thanks for the ideas anyway. –GP24 Nov 9 '15 at 13:35 add a c
