John RobertsonWritten 107w agoAs the saying goes Avodeji , with difficulty. The problem you describe is not uncommon. Sometimes it can be fixed cyclic redundancy check and sometimes it can’t. It depends on the details. If you have another copy of the data on the external drive and a Broadband connection then my inclination would be to get rid of the external hard disk and to back up your files in the Cloud – probably Dropbox. There are various other effective Cloud systems. If you have another copy of the data but no Broadband then I’d get a new external drive. A single faulty sector on your present drive can cause the problem you describe. It shouldn’t but it can.If you have important data on the external drive and have no other copy then the solution is harder. There may not be a solution. I hope that is not the case for you. I run diskpart in cmd an rescan it...This still doesn't help. I would be very grateful if you could help pliz.UpdateCancelAnswer Wiki4 Answers Joep van Steen, Worked for PowerQuest (partition software), since then wrote disk tools myselfWritten 8w agoIt’s a bit chicken/egg thing. Question is if your movie hung because of the CRC error in the first place or, did result from the improper disconnect.A CRC error in itself is not that serious. It just means the data within a sector does not correspond with the checksum. It can be result of improper shutdown or just disconnecting a disk during a write. You can fix it by writing data to the ‘corrupt’ sector.Disk management complaining the disk isn’t initialized suggests the error(s) is/are in the file system area. Goto the disk manufacturer’s website, and download their utility to fix the disk, or a utility to write zeros to the disk (all data will be lost). Then you can probably reformat the disk again. If you need the data from the disk, then you need to recover that FIRST, for ample using iRecover from DIY Data Recovery Software (iRecover - unformat type recovery)897 ViewsRelated QuestionsMore Answers BelowHow do I repair a hard disc's cyclic redundancy error in Windows 8?How can you fix an external HDD that fails to initialize?
