The error is: 10 percent processed. 20 percent processed. Msg 3271, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 A nonrecoverable I/O error occurred on file "R:\data\MyDB.mdf:" 23(Data error (cyclic redundancy check).). Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally. I http://dba.stackexchange.com/questions/25754/unknown-database-corruption-data-error-in-cyclic-redundancy-check thought it was a database corruption, so I executed: DBCC CHECKDB([MyDB]) WITH NO_INFOMSGS; and no errors were found. What could be happening? What are your suggestions regarding this datafile? sql-server share|improve this question edited Oct 15 '12 at 8:39 Mat 6,55622234 asked Oct 10 '12 at 16:03 mvillegascuellar 71111 Can you query data with out issue/error? Are you using SQL Server native backup? Is your backup location local on the server or a network share? –Shawn Melton Oct 10 '12 at 16:28 The backup is SQL Server native. I am backing up to a local drive and there is plenty of space. The database is about 20 GB I don't know which table is corrupt but the tables I have queried returned the correct results. –mvillegascuellar Oct 10 '12 at 16:56 Did you try CHKDSK? Could be physical disk problem. And try "DBCC CHECKDB (DBName)" (without "NO_INFOMSGS"). –Roi Gavish Oct 10 '12 at 16:57 1 See here: sqlservercentral.com/Forums/Topic714637-146-1.aspx –Jon Seigel Oct 10 '12 at 17:15 1 @JNK this is not a duplicate. Question 21960 was about WRITING the backup file (free space problem), This one is about READING the .mdf file, possible physical corruption of hard drive. –Roi Gavish Oct 11 '12 at 15:16 | show 1 more comment 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote If yo

I'm currently using the approach described here: sys.dm_db_index_physical_stats (under the Examples -> D section: Using sys.dm_db_index_physical_stats in a script to rebuild or reorganize indexes). Basically every hour I query the dm_db_index_physical_stats dynamic management view and if an index is between 5% and 30% fragmented I reorganize it, if it's greater than 30% fragmented I rebuild it. It seems to work fine during most of our testing, however, twice I've run into a problem where the scheduled job fails with an error: The operating system returned error 23(Data error (cyclic redundancy check).) to SQL Server during a read at offset 0x00000eae3b2000 in file 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA\database.mdf'. Additional messages in the SQL Server error log and system event log may provide more detail. This is a severe system-level error condition that threatens database integrity and must be corrected immediately. Complete a full database consisten
