There's a random picture on my computer (from a series of pics I took) and https://forums.techguy.org/threads/solved-cyclic-redundancy-check.981483/ for some reason, it won't let me delete this one picture. Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: UK Nov 6th, 2006, 08:11 PM CRC is basically a method of determining whether a file is free from errors. It's strange that a CRC error would prevent you from deleting a file but I would not worry about it too much. Unfortunatly I cannot suggest much more than booting into safemode and trying to delete the file again. Alternativly there could be a command line switch which disables CRC while performing the delete operation. __________________ Quote: Originally Posted by bigtimecow japan MetalMilitia View Public Profile Send a private message to MetalMilitia Find all posts by MetalMilitia #3 soundtest TERRIBLE BEAT Join Date: Apr 2001 Location: SHANGHAI Nov 6th, 2006, 09:04 PM Do you get this error just in Explorer or if you try to delete it from the command line too? soundtest View Public Profil

I've read other posts, and as far as I can tell, no one really knows. I keep seeing 1) submit a bug report (which cyclic redundancy I did, I think, on MS Connect) and 2)turn off duplication, AV software etc. I've done all that....I tried to delete them using cmd prompt (del d:\shares\users\offending folder) and it says "Are you sure Y/N?" So, I type Y (YES I'm sure!), but the file (folder in this case) is still there. I tried cyclic redundancy error running CHKDSK on a few disks in cmd prompt, but I was being asked some questions I didn't understand. Something about something will be lost, so I said N. I have 5 files that are reporting this error in the same folder (they happen to be VIA drivers, but I figure that is irrelavant). I JUST WANT TO DELETE THEM. HELP? (look through the mount points) Just browse through D:\DE\shares\[sharename] and C:\fs\x\DE\shares\[sharename] from the server desktop (where x is a random letter or number). For example, if you have a file in \\server\videos called test.avi that is causing a problem, then the full path to the actual file will either be D:\DE\shares\videos\test.avi or C:\fs\x\DE\shares\videos\test.avi (again, where x is a random letter or number). So if you found the full path to the actual file was C:\fs\1M\DE\shares\videos\test.avi,

Run a "chkdsk" on the drive and let it repair any file errors and then u should be able to delete the file. Usually, when u drop this hard drive, the cd inside get damaged or scratched. so when u try to delete something, the needle on the disk is trying to find that file but the damaged wont let do cycles, (goes in circles till it finds it). now it cant delete it if it cant reach it. so this means that ur hard drive needs to be replaced. this warning could also be a hoax, u might have a virus or malware not letting u delete it, so u need to protect ur computer with antivirus and antimalware software Source(s): me, computer engineer at 2pra-repairs.com chivalrous1989 · 6 years ago 0 Thumbs up 0 Thumbs down Comment Add a comment Submit · just now Report Abu
