After doing a full NTFS format, and during the installation process, an error pops up saying: SXS.dll: Syntax error in manifest or policy file d:\i386\asms\10\MSFT\windows\gdiplus\gdiplus.man on line 4 Error: installation failed D:\i386\asms Error message: Data error (cyclic redundancy check) The CD has been http://superuser.com/questions/270181/winxp-install-error-data-error-cyclic-redundancy-check used many times before without any issue. Any ideas if this is a disk issue, or hardware issue? Update: I've confirmed the disc works on another machine, so I will try replacing the CD-ROM drive in the PC in question. windows-xp installation share|improve this question edited Apr 15 '11 at 7:11 asked Apr 13 '11 at 3:32 Steve 1,01683473 I found this on an HDD. The user had issues, and whilst I was trying to recover files, I learned I could not access the user's document folder due to this error. I used Easy Disk Driver Repair and it claimed to have fenced off 5 broken sectors, but couldn't fetch the data. snapfiles.com/get/eddr.html –bgmCoder Jan 16 '15 at 3:08 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote accepted Cyclic redundancy error specifically refers to errors encountered in reading from a disk or file. In an install, this generally means the source file, or, in this case, the CD. Does the CD work in another computer right now? If it does, has it worked in this CD drive before? The problem could possibly be a CD drive that doesn't handle that sort of CD very well (amazingly enough, that happens more often than

The disc boots to setup fine, I created a new partition and proceeded to install. Setup copied some files over and then rebooted. Upon booting, setup continues and within a minute or two I receive the error "Data error (cyclic redundancy check)". Clicking OK shows more detail: --- Error: Installation Failed: D:\I386\asms. Error Message : Data error (cyclic redundancy check). Fatal Error: One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup could not be installed. --- I thought it might be a problem with the optical drive so I swapped in a different one, but I received the same error. Thinking the disc was bad, I returned the disc to ZipZoomFly for an exchange. I eventually get the replacement... I assumed they simply replaced the disc because they sent me back the same product key. In the meantime I had installed Windows XP x64 edition beta so that kept me happy. I decided to wipe x64 off and reinstall the OEM disc, and I get the same stupid error above. Now I'm really frustrated and I don't know what to think. Did ZZF send the same bad disc back to me thinking I wouldn't notice? Or is there something with these OEM discs that just don't agree with Pioneer optical drives? Well, I'm now beyond the 30-day replacement period for ZZF. I'm looking for suggestions... should I try and get a replacement disc from Microsoft? Anyone else experience this kind of problem before? Since Microsoft does not replace OEM CDs, it would be best if you purchased a "Retail Version" of Windows XP. Retail versions come in a box and are available at your favorite store that sells computer software. -- Carey Frisch Microsoft MVP Windows XP - Shell/User Be Smart!
