If you have another copy of the data on the external drive and a Broadband connection then my inclination would be to get rid of the external hard disk and to back up your files in the Cloud – probably Dropbox. There are various other effective Cloud systems.If you have another copy of the data but no Broadband then I’d get a new external drive. Since that time, this 500 GB hard drive become filled with tens of thousands of pictures, videos we've created from our various travels, and a whole bunch of marketing related stuff for our online work. This post is for anyone else who might be experiencing the same Cyclic Redundancy Check Here's what I did to fix the Data Error: Cyclic Redundancy Check Start -> opened a command prompt (I typed CMD into the search feature in Windows 7, but depending on your version of Windows, you'll have to look up how to do this.) Got the desired DOS black screen with c:UsersJonathan I ran checkdisk on the drive. I did that by typing chkdsk g: So the whole line looked like this: C:UsersJonathan>chkdsk g: (Your drive may have a different letter). Running checkdisk took a few minutes to check the disk. Then I read through the results of the checkdisk. This message was in there. "The volume Bitmap is incorrect. Windows found problems with the file system. Run CHKDSK with the /F (fix) option to correct these." So,
