I can see prevents me using chkdsk as the disk has no drive letter. Does anyone have anyrecommendationsas to what I could try? WSB does not assign drive letter to backup target to avoid inadvertent access of disk resulting in loss of data. Guys, I keep getting http://www.tgrmn.com/web/forum/viewtopict3696.htm the message/s below when trying to move/copy information from a WD 1.5TB https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/71151-how-to-resolve-the-problem-data-error-cyclic-redundancy-check (EADS) drive in a drive dock to my NAS. At first, I thought it was a folder that I've had problems accessing before which I assume is corrupt so I excluded it but that wasn't it. It showed me another folder so I excluded it cyclic redundancy and things started fine. Then it stopped again and showing me the error for a second folder... This is when it's comparing and executing, ie, checking the files in the source drive. Ramesh, a CRC failure indicates a hardware failure somewhere in the chain. You may have an error in your hard drive or frash drive or, most likely, you have a memory issue. I would suggest beginning by using a memory test package like Memtest86+ and using that to determine if your system memory is working correctly. 0 Thai Pepper OP Trivious Jul 6, 2009 at 10:48 UTC Scott is correct. CRC failures occur at Layer 2 - DATA LINK as frames at the packet level of the OSI 7 layer model. This means It could simply be corrupted data too, but usually it has to do with the link. In this case, the link is drive to drive, so it has to be either a bad drive or sector, corrupt data, or a bad usb port or usb driver. I would try to use winrar or 7-zip and compress it first, as it may allow you to copy it. Once you do, you can try to extract it, but chances are your data has some 0's and 1's falling out of it and it still may not work. Good luck 0 Anaheim OP LeeV Jul 10, 2009 at 8:15 UTC Following on from Scott, you need to run Memtest86+ first, the crucial bit is that it must run for at least 10 cycles to make sure the memory is 100%. Once you've done that, download the hard drive manufacturers diagnostics CD, and a run both the short and the long drive tests. Have you tried coping the video files off the
