a bad disc since I can play or maybe I'm wrong - help? weehawk, Nov 8, 2004 #1 ScubaPete Senior member Joined: Mar 13, 2003 Messages: 6,324 Likes Received: 0 Trophy Points: 116 Hi weehawk, welcome to aD, A "CRC" error is most often caused by bad media - it could be any of the following: 1. A dirty disc, 2. A scratched disc 3. A poor quality disc (cheap media if it happens during the "Burn" section of your work) 4. A bad cyclic redundancy error sims 3 disc from the Mfgr. It can also be from a bad optical component in your drive. At this time I don't believe it's your drive at all. If you recently purchased this disc new from a store, I would return it as defective if just cleaning and the proper use of DVD Decrypter doesn't get the job done. I'd like you to check your DVD Decrypter's settings. First, it should be version 3.5.1.0. Go to "Tools", "Settings", set everything to "Default". Then in the "General" tab change, "Removal Method" from "Normal" to "Aggressive", in "File Mode", "tick" Remove PUO's." For ripping in the "ISO Read Mode", "tick" "Remove PUO's" there also. in the "CSS" tab, under "CSS Cracking Method", choose "Brute Force ~> I/O Key Exchange" and "On Failure" choose "Yes". . IMPORTANT: In the "I / O" tab, in the bottom right, "tick" the box which says, "Ignore read errors". This is an excellent setting for dealing with scratched discs which may cause ripping problems. Some people like ripping with DVD Decrypter using the "File" "Mode" BUT, especially for episodel-type DVD's, I feel that nothing can beat ripping the DVD using the "ISO", "Read", "Mode". After you've ripped your disc using the "ISO" "Read" "Mode", open DVD Shrink go to File", "Open Disc Image " to locate your ISO image - after allowing DVD Shrink to load up the image, just process it as usual then burn to disc using your burner of choice. HINT: If you are going to burn with DVD Decry

DVD's are now being slowely equiped with a new protection called rip guard. I used various programs, such as: dvd shrink, dvd decrypter, dvd x copy, to get around it but none work at the time. THe only way to "backup" those dvd's is to rip the video from the disc and then burn the file to a disc. There is a quality loss but is the onlt way for those dvd's at the moment. And that doesnt even work all the time Athlon 64 3200+ s754 OC 2.2GHz/ 1.5 GB PC3200 Ram / BFG 6800 Ultra / Liquid Cooling / 3 LED 80mm case fans / One woop Ass Machine Reply Reply With Quote September 26th, 2005,09:33 AM #3 phenious View Profile View Forum Posts View Blog Entries Visit Homepage Moderator Join Date Oct 2001 Location Winter Park FL Posts 5,334 Try opening the DVD in your software DVD player, get to the middle of the movie a
ProductsHomearound the homeproductivityHow to Fix a DVD Shrink Error (Cyclic Redundancy Check)How to Fix a DVD Shrink Error (Cyclic Redundancy Check)By Michael HintzA cyclic redundancy check, often shortened to CRC, is a mathematical function used by computers to ensure the integrity of data as it is being transferred from one location to another. If there is a problem with the transfer https://www.techwalla.com/articles/how-to-fix-a-dvd-shrink-error-cyclic-redundancy-check and the data does not match on both sides, then a cyclic redundancy check error will occur. This can happen in Windows while reading a disc or in any number of programs, including DVD Shrink. Possible http://forum.videohelp.com/threads/333596-Backing-up-using-the-DVD-Shrink causes include a scratched or damaged disc, a faulty optical drive, or the result of trying to back up a copy-protected disc.Things You'll NeedComputer with burn-capable optical driveDVD Shrink softwareDVD to be copiedDisc cleaning kit (optional)Water cyclic redundancy or rubbing alcohol (optional)Cotton shirt (optional)Step 1Rule out the optical drive (the DVD player on the computer) as the cause of the error by attempting to read other discs with the drive. If you're successful, the drive can be ruled out as the cause of the CRC error, leaving the disc as the culprit. The disc could be scratched or damaged, or it could've had copy protection against duplication written into it cyclic redundancy error when it was burned. If the optical drive fails to read other discs, then there is likely some problem with the drive itself.Step 2Rule out the surface quality of the disc to be backed up. Even if it looks fine, check to make sure it plays or reads normally outside of DVD Shrink. The DVD could have been incorrectly burned. This happens often with cheaper CD and DVD media; it is rather rare with commercial DVDs. If you can rule out the surface quality of the DVD as a cause for the error, go to step 4. If not, see step 3 for information on attempting to clean the disc.Step 3Clean the faulty disc. It is possible for any amount of scratching, grime or residue to cause read errors. Use a disc cleaning kit, or use water or alcohol and a piece of cotton shirt. Make sure that you wipe against the tracks and not with them; wiping with the tracks can cause further damage.Step 4Having determined that the cause of the error lies in neither the drive nor the disc itself, there remains only one possibility: the cause of the error is the disc's encryption, or copy protection, of one type or another (several different types exist). Is there anything that I can do to get the show shrunk at to my HD to write it to a DVD ? TC Quote 2nd Apr 201122:45 #2 Noahtuck View Profile View Forum Posts Banned Join Date : Jun 2004 Location : ®Inside My Avatar™© U.S. What are you ripping with ? Are the original dvd's retail store bought (pressed) ? Dvd Shrink is waaaaay old and has not been updated to deal with newer copy protections in YEARS as far as ripping is concerned!!!! If you are trying to open and rip them from your drive with Dvd Shrink that is probably your problem. Newer copy protections for pressed retail dsic's is updated many times a year. Rip with something that is updated on a regular basis to deal with newer copy protections like dvdfab decrypter then open with dvd shrink to transcode to fit on a SL dvdr. I guess what I need to know is... do I use the HD Decrypter to burn the main movie to the HD and then use DVD Shrink and then burn or write it from there to a DVD blank disc ? I don't drink, but after reading this post I understand why you would think I was Noahtuck. I sometimes have a hard time explaining my problem, but sometimes these Bill Gates on here throw so much crap out there it is very confusing. I will lay off the booze! LOL!
