If not please remove post. I've been trying to rip a DVD that states on the DVD label "Copy Protection" and that no viewable copy can be made. It's a DVD9, Dual Layer Single Sided Disc. When I try to rip the files I get a CRC error. I've tried DVD Decrypter, ONES, CloneDVD
Dvd Decrypter
DVD-cloner and even DVDShrink. With DVD Decrypter is fails at around 5% and by the looks of it the others progs also fail around about the same place. I've checked the disc and there doesn't seem to be any scratches or finger marks and I've cleaned it thoroughly but all to no avail. I've also tried both my burners-a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-108 Firmware v1.18 (that can handle dual layer) and LITE-On DVDRW LDW-851S Firmware GS0P. I've read somewhere that some "Copy Protected" DVDs have a CRC error burned into the disc so that the ripping process fails. If that's the case with this one it's the first time I've come across it. I've even followed the advice given by MOVIEGEEK i.e. If you encounter an error while ripping with DVDDecrypter go to Tools->Settings and set Structure Protection Removal Method to Aggressive, then go to I/O tab and enable Ignore Read Errors.Setting Transfer Length to Manual/32KB might help. If anyone can offer any help I'd be much obliged. Quote 16th Jun 200502:09 #2 redwudz View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message Mod Neophyte Super Moderator Join Dat

I have attempted to rip a copy of some DVDs I own to facilitate watching them on the netbook. I have run into some errors. First the setup: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Linux ub-desktop 2.6.32-25-generic #45-Ubuntu SMP Sat Oct 16 19:52:42 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux DVD Drive - HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GSA-4166B I have tried multiple DVDs (Heat, Team America, The Messenger, Holy Grail). All fail in the same way. I can watch any of these DVDs from start to finish in VLC or mPlayer. No issues there. For ripping I tried AcidRip, DVD::RIP, and even fired up a virtual box of Windows to try different applications. The error log shows: Code: Oct 30 20:39:51 ub-desktop kernel: [35005.981805] sr 4:0:0:0: [sr0] Unhandled sense code Oct 30 20:39:51 ub-desktop kernel: [35005.981814] sr 4:0:0:0: [sr0] Result: hostbyte=DID_OK driverbyte=DRIVER_SENSE Oct 30 20:39:51 ub-desktop kernel: [35005.981822] sr 4:0:0:0: [sr0] Sense Key : Medium Error [current] Oct 30 20:39:51 ub-desktop kernel: [35005.981831] sr 4:0:0:0: [sr0] Add. While the above answers may be correct I am wondering if the files are larger than 4GB and you are using FAT32, which can't handle files larger than 4GB. December 15, 2008 4:13 PM Subscribe How do I work around the newer DVD copy protection? Recently I tried to backup a DVD of Hancock to a hard drive via DVD Shrink. It failed with a CRC error at 8% into the disc (almost exactly where the movie starts). Handbrake also choked and showed encoding times that kept doubling indefinitely. The movie played from the actual disc mostly okay in VLC with a only slight hiccup at that beginning of movie mark. I saw at least one other person online who had trouble ripping this particular DVD. I have heard some newer DVDs have better copy protection on them. I'm not totally sure this was the case with Hancock; maybe it was a bad disc. But in general, is there a good way to work around these schemes? I'm on Win XP. posted by wastelands to Computers & Internet (19 answers total) 34 users marked this as a favorite DVDfab or AnyDVD.posted by wongcorgi at 4:24 PM on December 15, 2008 wrongcorgi has it. Here's the deal though: Both are trialware, except for DVDFab's decryption and copying ONLY functions. To get where you're used to, rip with either (try DVDFab HD Decrypter first, as you might as well stick with the functions that don't expire if possible) and then point DVD Shrink (for transcoding) or DVD Decrypter (for re-mastering, selecting only certain PGCs, splitting, etc.) to the newly ripped VIDEO_TS folder and point their output to another folder.posted by Inspector.Gadget at 4:38 PM on December 15, 2008 [2 favorites] Woops, don't know where that extra letter came from.
