in my own cd-rom drive and tried copying the file she was having a problem with and I realized it couldn't how to fix cyclic redundancy check on dvd be copied on my system either. Therefore, in all likelihood, itwas the cd itself that was problematic, not the system, player or other hardware. The error received when trying to copy the file jfilerecovery, was a cyclic redundancycheck (CRC) error. In fact, this is the most common error encountered with cd/dvd access or copying problems and I knew that such a problem was often caused by a dirty or scratched disc, so I examined the surface of the cd and just as I suspected, it was marked. It had a distinct smudgeprinton it. I cleaned the whole cd and after doing so,
Data Error Cyclic Redundancy Check When Installing A Game
voila! ,I was able to copy the needed file from the cd to my hard drive.I informed her that the problem was fixed and when I told her it was just a matter of cleaning the disc, she was surprised that the solutionwas so simple and never thought such a confoundingproblem could be caused by a less than pristine condition cd. The fact is that cds and dvds can be very finicky. Just one speck of dirt or a hairline scratch can cause problems in accessing your data or the disc itself. These marks can make it difficult for the drive's laser beam to properly read the disc. Fortunately, dirty discs can be cleaned. Scratches can be more problematic, though, in many cases they can be repaired. With scratches, the severity of the problemdepends muchon the type and location of the scratch.Scratches that run across the disc or along the track, as opposed to those that run in a straight line from rim to center, can be the most difficult to repair. These type of problems are unique to cd and dvd media because the surfaces of the discs are bare and exposed, offering no protection against dust, finger prints
CRC Recovery Tool? Discussion in 'Hardware' started by J8son, Dec 19, 2010. J8son Corporal I have three internal SATA drives made by Western Digital (2x 320gigs and a 400gig). In trying to backup data between drives I'm getting the dreaded "Cyclic data error cyclic redundancy check hard drive Redundancy Error" I'm sure these drives are failing and I plan to replace them with a copy scratched dvd single 1TB SATA drive. However, I must do all I can to recover these files first. I've read that it's sometimes possible to work around

a CRC error as it's simply a mathematical algorithm. Can someone recommend a reliable data recovery tool? I'm willing to purchase a good pro level tool for the future. Thanks! J8son, Dec 19, 2010 #1 mcsmc MajorGeek Hi Have you http://www.percontra.net/archive/2corruptcddvdrecovery.htm tried Unstoppable Copier? It's good for damaged optical disks as well as the issue you're mentioning. You can download it here: http://www.roadkil.net/program.php?ProgramID=29 Best part? It's free. Personally, while some software is worth paying for, to a large extent I feel like I'm wasting money since almost every software license is worthless as soon as a new version of the paid software comes out. I try to stick to open source or freeware for most of my needs. mcsmc, Dec 19, 2010 http://forums.majorgeeks.com/index.php?threads/best-crc-recovery-tool.229344/ #2 gman863 MajorGeek If your new 1TB drive is a Seagate, you might be able to disc cloning using DiscWizard, a free Seagate utility. It usually comes packaged on CD with Seagate retail boxed drives or (if you buy a bare Seagate drive) you can download it free at Seagate's website. I've used Disc Wizard many times; however not for combining three drives onto one. Prior to cloning the drives, you'll likely have format the new drive into three partitions. If interested in this option, I'd go here to download the program and read the instructions to see if DiscWizard will work for what you're doing: http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.j...toid=d9fd4a3cdde5c010VgnVCM100000dd04090aRCRD Remember: This will only work with Seagate brand drives. Hope this helps gman863, Dec 19, 2010 #3 J8son Corporal gman863 said: ↑ you'll likely have format the new drive into three partitions.Click to expand... Actualy, what I meant was that I need to do my best to recover the files and then I'll just store them and do a fresh install onto the 1TB drive. Another issue I'm worried about is I'm not actualy sure which drive has the problem. They all have partition problems at this point, which has lead me to invest in the new TB drive. Is there a way to determine which drive is giving me the CRC problems (IE: the M: drive I'm copying FROM or perhaps the C: drive I'm copying TO). Thanks! J8son, Dec 19, 2010 #4 gman863 Majo
Date Social Facebook Twitter Google+ Pinterest YouTube About Making Technology Work For Everyone Loading How do I fix a cyclic redundancy check error when I try to copy a file? CRC errors happen when there's a bad spot on the media https://askleo.com/how_do_i_fix_a_cyclic_redundancy_check_error_when_i_try_to_copy_a_file/ of your hard disk. Data recovery and disk repair are often possible with the right tools. //
Outlook started acting up, so as part of my attempts to fix it I tried to copy the PST to another location. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-r_CrKbZNgk The copy failed part way through with a cyclic redundancy check error. How can I get past this and backup my data? The cyclic redundancy check, or "CRC" error, indicates a bad spot on your hard drive. The fact cyclic redundancy that you're seeing it when you try to copy a file indicates that the bad spot may be within the file itself. We need to verify that and then we need to try to recovery your file and repair your hard drive. First, let's make sure that the problem is actually with the file you're copying since it's equally likely that the problem is with the location you're copying too. This is easy. Fire up a Command Prompt window, and cyclic redundancy check then copy the file to NUL: Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. C:>CD (to wherever the file is located) C:wherever>copy Outlook.pst NUL 1 file(s) copied. This reads the entire file by copying it "nowhere". If this succeeds, the problem is not actually with the file itself, but the location you were trying to copy it to. My recommendation would be to copy it to a different disk entirely, or a different machine on your local network. If this copy fails, then we've confirmed that the bad sector on your hard disk is actually being used by some portion of your file. • Now that we've confirmed that the problem is in fact in the file itself, we need to make as best a copy of it as we can, somewhere else. This sets a position of "it can't get any worse than this". Some data within the file may be lost, but you'll have copied as much as possible before the recovery efforts. Once again, we want to copy the file to some different hard disk, or some other machine on your local network. And once again we need to do this within the command prompt: Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. C:>CD (to wherever the file is located) C:wherever>xcopy /c Outlook.pst D: 1 file(s) copied.
