An external hard drive? Or the whole PC? Id say your hard drive in your external is failing. Replace it. nyterageSep 17, 2012, 4:13 PM first what you need to do is have windows scan the disc for errors, to do this go into the my computer screen, right click on your http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/290121-32-cyclic-redundancy-check-error-external-back-hard-drive external hard drive and select property's. from there press the tool tab on the top and click error-checking, this will scan the drive for possible faulty sectors and other such things. next would be to check the S.M.A.R.T status on the hard drive. If your talking about the $600 investment in your PC i'm sure it's fine unless your having an issue with that as well. It sounds like it's your external that is having the problems. A cyclic redundancy check error can be caused by several different issues: registry corruption, a cluttered data error hard disk, an unsuccessful program installation, or misconfigured files. Regardless of the specific cause, the cyclic redundancy check error is a serious one and must be addressed to avoid potential data loss or even a total system failure system. Luckily, there are a few simple ways to address this problem using (free) disk utility software.[1] Steps Method 1 data error cyclic Running the CHKDSK Utility 1 Access the CHKDSK utility. CHKDSK (or "check disk") is a built-in Windows utility that will scan and repair your drive's errors. It has the ability to find and repair a number of small errors or file corruptions that may be causing the cyclic redundancy error. Right click the drive you want to check, then click Properties->Tools. Under “Error Checking” click “Check Now”. If a CD or DVD disc is giving you this error it may be the result of a scratch or some dust. Try cleaning the disk with a soft cloth before anything else. Optical disk errors are often not repairable. If you get this error on a Mac (less common), first try the built-in Disk Utility and “Repair” the disk. 2 Decide on a basic versus an advanced scan. Check boxes to indicate if you’d like to do a basic check and repair or an advanced one - the default is the basic scan. The basic scan should take around 15-20 minutes while the advan

Not able to take full backups, below is the error we are getting. I tried running full backups to continue after errors but it still fails. Yes sql services has full access to the disk. I was able to take full backups for other databases on same server. Msg 3203, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Read on "R:\MSSQL10\Database.mdf" failed: 23(Data error (cyclic redundancy check).) Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally. I ran checkdb it came back saying to run repair_allow_data_loss. Is there anyway to fix this error without running allow data loss? sql sql-server-2008 backup dbcc share|improve this question edited Aug 7 '15 at 14:56 Forum999 155113 asked Aug 7 '15 at 13:55 knahs 30110 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote Most of the time CRC error (cyclic redundancy check) is connected to file corruption (for any reason), it can be hard disk error (file written on bad sector of hard disk), it is possible to be something else as well. What you can do is to take database offline for a second (Tasks>Take offline) than copy database and log files .mdf and .ldf to alternate location. Than try to repair database, if there is some data lost, you can always restore copied files and database to previous state. If your hard drive is damaged there is possibility that you will not be able to copy files. share|improve this answer edited Aug 7 '15 at 14:34 answered Aug 7 '15 at 14:22 Forum999 155113 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name Email Post as a guest Name Email discard By posting your answer, you agree to the privacy policy and terms of service.
