A dirty disc, 2. A scratched disc 3. A poor quality disc (cheap media if it happens during the "Burn" section of your work) 4. A bad disc from the Mfgr. It can also be from a bad optical component in your drive. At this time I don't believe it's your drive at all. If you recently purchased this disc new from a store, I would return it as defective if just cleaning and the proper use of DVD Decrypter doesn't get the job done. I'd like you to check your DVD Decrypter's settings. First, it should be version 3.5.1.0. Go to "Tools", "Settings", set everything to "Default". Then in the "General" tab change, "Removal Method" from "Normal" to "Aggressive", in "File Mode", "tick" Remove PUO's." For ripping in the "ISO Read Mode", "tick" "Remove PUO's" there also. in the "CSS" tab, under "CSS Cracking Method", choose "Brute Force ~> I/O Key Exchange" and "On Failure" choose "Yes". . IMPORTANT: In the "I / O" tab, in

If you're successful, the drive can be ruled out as the cause of the CRC error, leaving the disc as the culprit. The disc could be scratched or damaged, or it could've had copy protection against duplication written into it when it was burned. If the optical drive fails to read other discs, then there is likely some problem with the drive itself.Step 2Rule out the surface quality of the disc to be backed up. Even if it looks fine, check to make sure it plays or reads normally outside of DVD Shrink. The DVD could have been incorrectly burned. This happens often with cheaper CD and DVD media; it is rather rare with commercial DVDs. If you can rule out the surface quality of the DVD as a cause for the error, go to step 4. If not, see step 3 for information on attempting to clean the disc.Step 3Clean the faulty disc. It is possible for any amount of scratching, grime or residue to cause read er

Does anyone know ? or failing data error cyclic that is there another free program thats as straightforward as dvd shrink? and as reliable as it used to be? could the problem be down to new copy protection tecniques? DVD's are now being slowely equiped with a new protection called rip guard. I used various programs, such as: dvd shrink, dvd decrypter, dvd x copy, to get around it but none work at the time. THe only way to "backup" those dvd's is to rip the video from the disc and then burn the file to a disc. There is a quality loss but is the onlt way for those dvd's at the moment. The error message I'm getting is Failed to read file E / Data error cyclic redundancy check. Before I was burning through Drive C with no problems now it will not complete the analysis process. I need to know how to get back to burning or analysing through drive C. When I try to open file C, it says file can not be opened/found. Maybe the lens on your reader is dirty, have you tried running a cleaning disc in the dvd burner? Sep 23, 2009 #2 SNGX1275 TS Forces Special Posts: 10,689 +395 That will happen on some disks even if they are perfect, I always attributed it to a form of copy protection dvdshrink can't deal with. Try and rip it with dvddecrypter first, to a folder, then point dvdshrink to the folder. This of course assumes you own the disk.. Sep 24, 2009 #3 captaincranky TechSpot Addict Posts: 11,424 +1,752 Copy protection strategy is updated almost monthly. As a result, neither DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter are able to cope with many current discs. While as SNGX1275 suggests, DVD Decrypter is more potent than DVD Shink, it isn't the answer to issues with many recent discs, and some "failed to read" errors will also be observed when using it. However, DVD Decrypter also possesses the ability to rip a DVD in ISO mode, which comes in handy from time to time. Sep 24, 2009 #4 (You must log in or sign up to reply here.)
