Before any of you here ask "why do you have something that old?" let me say that this is just something to tinker around with, and I am learning computer repair, so I figure what a better way to do it than with this old machine? Any ideas? I don't think the hard drive is bad, because I can do a scan disk check just fine. Also, I DO have a Gaming desktop that is up to date. Any help would be apprerciated. I discovered someone on here with the http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?41781-Data-error-reading-drive-c same problem as me however the person that originally posted the question did not continue with the thread so i did not get the answer, the person answering was a Paul Komski. The actual problem is this: I have windows 95 and it will not load. The screen comes up but then goes black and i get the following message: Data error reading drive C: Abort,Fail,Retry. I don't have a bootable floppy or a windows 95 disk as the computer was second hand. The thread that I discovered on this site the person Paul Komski was going to inform the person how to fix the problem there self instead of going to a shop, so if that person happens to look across this thread i will be most grateful. I have a normal cd rom, and a floppy drive on my desktop pc. (i believe he was asking this question on the previous thread. ) I have tried starting the computer in safe mode and the computer does the exact same thing. Also went to command prompt only to try and run scandisk but it will not run and the same thing comes up: Data error reading drive C,Abort Fail,Retry. If anyone else has any ideas on what i can do to sort out this problem i would be most grateful. I would like to try absolutely everything before having to p

Try running SCANDISK to see what errors it finds. This will only be available DOS 6.2 and above. If you have data that you don't want to lose, make sure you back everything up. I recently worked on a Windows 98 machine that failed to boot. We reinstalled Windows and after one boot, it failed. It turned out that the hard drive had a bad sector right where the BOOT files are installed. So it would corrupt the boot files every time. That drive gave "Error reading Sector" messages. Let us know where this gets you and more info about your system. ------------------ My Dennis Politalk Reply With Quote January 3rd, 2001,12:50 PM #3 Robert M View Profile View Forum Posts Virtual PC S
