Please bare with me because I am somewhat confused... First, I installed 10.04.1, then I was prompted to upgrade to 10.04 LTS which I did. I messed around and got the darn nVidia thing installed (I don't know if this is related, but I thought I should mention it) After the upgrade, I had some corrupted packages I couldn't re-install. I edited 'available' and 'status' to remove these (in /var/lib/dpkg), then removed all the related files from the /var/lib/dpkg/info area. I then re-installed them with apt-get and everything seemed fine... So much said, now I can no longer use 'apt-get update' or 'apt-get install ...'. Basically, can't install anything anymore. I get the following add error: # apt-get update 0% [Working]/usr/lib/apt

You could try manually downloading the apt for 8.04 from the ubuntu package website and installing it with sudo dpkg -i filename_of_the_package.deb share|improve this answer answered Mar 12 '11 at 17:24 Kenny Rasschaert 6,65832753 I have tried that, didn't succeed... –marue Mar 12 '11 at 18:37 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name Email Post as a guest Name Email discard By posting your answer, you agre

When I try to start apt-get (or most other apps) I get..... symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6: undefined symbol: -ZNSt7num-getIcSt19istreambuf-iteratorIcSt11char-traitsIcEEE2idE, version GLIBCXX-3.4 If found this bug that seems to match the problem I'm having.... Bug#584572 I had a couple of unstable repositories in my apt sources file (which I have since removed) which I think may have caused the problem. The submitter of the bug wrote that he would "downgrade to the version in squeeze now" How do I do that if I can't get apt-get, aptitude, or any web browser to work at all? Is there a way to use the install disc to repair this? 1 post by szac » Wed Jan 29, 2014 6:51 pm I'm having a problem running aptitude. Started out as debugging UZBL failing due to multiple processes, but now this:Code: Select all$ sudo apt-get update
apt-get: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/libstdc++.so.6: undefined symbol: _ZTISt10lock_error, version GLIBCXX_3.4.11
Seems I'm going to have to do some manual package management, but just not sure where or how. Thanks.
