only read the disks but I cannot format or write to them due to an io device error. When formatting a floppy disk, it takes more than 5 minutes to format one and it always ends in failure. The diskette sometimes becomes corrupt after that. I have tried with multiple diskettes and all of them gave me the same error. The drive can format a bit, then cannot read the entire disk, and then format a bit again. You will hear this rhythmic grinding and seeking noise instead of the smooth stepping noise when you format floppies.I have tried with a 5.25 floppy drive and a 3.5 floppy drive with the same issues appearing. I have also tried switching floppy cables and this does not work either. When I looked into the controller, pins 4 ,5 and 6 are gone, but the original image of the motherboard at msi does also show pin 4,5 and 6 are suppose to be missing. My bios setting was correct in diskette A as I set it to 1.2 or 1.44 reapectively. I have disabled hpet as well. My drives are connected to the end of the floppy cable. If anyone can help, I will be more than grateful. Thanks. I am trying to install a 5 1/4 360K floppy drive (Yep, I have found I need to retrieve some very old stuff). The drive is recognised, but cannot be accessed. I get the following error message: "Request could http://www.computing.net/answers/windows-7/floppy-disk-io-error/16523.html not be performed because on an I/O device error". Same message with 3 diferent drives that all work fine on a machine running W95. I have swaped the cables, and they test fine also. nowhere - ill get an „IO Device Control Error „ . Xfloppy still formats the discs, but doesnt write the images anymore. I tried everything http://nfggames.com/forum2/index.php?topic=5301.0;wap2 i could think of , but nothing helped ( Bios defaults, .Delete the XFloppy Files and entries to system.ini, Reinstalling the Floppy controller and so on … ) . But nothing worked…. Can someone help http://www.tomsguide.com/forum/275-49-startup-disk-error me on this topic ? Its a Windows 98 Pentium 3 PC , 1 5.25 FDD Floppy. Thanks in Advance :) eidis: Hi K.h. !Could it be that the floppy images in question are not converted device error from DIM to XDF ? If so, you can do it with:Virtual Floppy Image Converterhttp://www.vector.co.jp/soft/win95/util/se151106.htmlIf that is not the case, try physically connecting the floppy drive to the cable as A or B without touching the jumpers on the drive. Try setting it in BIOS as A or B, 720kb or 1.2Mb. This might sound weird but it helped me a long time ago with ZX-Spectrum disk transfers.Next you could try i/o device error Omniflop, however its minimum system requirements are Windows 2000. It will not work with Windows 98.Omniflophttp://www.shlock.co.uk/Utils/OmniFlop/OmniFlop.htmThere is an older version called Omnidisk, however it does not support X68000 disk images.Next you could try transfering them in Linux.Writing X68000 5.25" floppieshttp://gamesx.com/wiki/doku.php?id=x68000:writing_floppiesHope this helps and let us know how it went.Keep the scene alive !Eidis k.h.: Well, it seems that the drive is just broken. After further trys it went verly loud an noisy. Now its not getting power anymore ... I will replace it k.h.: Same as before.... Received 2 drives today which lead to the same . Can write a few discs, and then its IO error again. So its the Mainboard somehow i guess ... eidis: Hi K.h. !Have you tried connecting the drives to another PC ? Meanwhile you can check the PSU power lines with a multimeter and make sure that they output the rated voltage at +5V and +12V rails and do a visual inspection of its capacitors. Some PC power supplies do work with bad capacitors but will not filter output correctly thus creating ripple current and slowly killing the connected devices. Some devices are more tolerant than others.Keep the scene alive !Eidis Navigation [0] Message Index [#] Next page Go to full version
-Disk I/O error Tags: Drivers Floppy Disk Apps Last response: December 30, 2000 2:04 AM in Apps General Discussion Share Anonymous a b \ Driver December 11, 2000 3:13:34 PM Two problems: Scenario: I repartitioned my 8.4 gb partition to be 30 gigs on my new motherboard since it can see it. Reinstalled Win98 on it. Then tried installing WIN98SE but said not enough memory. That is my first problem(how to get around the memory problem even though I have 128MB ram and the system recognizes 128 MB? Second, when tried installing WIN98 SE over WIN98 tried using floppy which didn't respond. Driver settings showed my 3.25 floppy drive as a 5.25 drive. So I removed the floppy resources(drivers I guess) from the resource list in Win98. Did fdisk again and deleted drive. Upon rebooting, machine says Loading System from Floppy...OK Then it says Disk I/O error. Please replace disk and then press return. Well I notice the floppy drive turning on when I hit return but it can't seem to read my startup disks which worked and I used before. Anyone know how to get around this?
