BaseCamp reports "unknown error when opening GPX file." The file does not import. None of them work. However GPX routes from every other web-based mapping software import just fine. So bikely is not creating valid GPX files, which is probably the reason they are so unreliable when downloaded into my 800, and why no one I know who has a Garmin uses http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12868303 bikely anymore. You might look into that. GPX files aren't worth much if they don't work with Garmin software. For one thing, it puts the WPT's *after* the TRK's, which is wrong. Schema says the WPTs come first. If anything is doing schema validation on the GPX file, the import will fail for this. I have just spent the last hour trying to load a Bikely gpx into Basecamp and my Edge 800 with no luck. It only took about 15 sec to do a cut and paste and swap the wpt's with trk's - resave, and it all works fine. Top freezing77 Posts: 727 Joined: Wed Aug 30,

Help importing GPX files please Gregg C 0 Points September http://forums.gpsreview.net/discussion/23873/help-importing-gpx-files-please 2011 edited November -1 in Garmin Handheld GPS and Wearable GPS Forum Good morning guys,I have a brand spanking new Montana 650t, I am having trouble importing my GPX files. Here's the deal,I exported all of my tracks, routes & way points from Magellan's VantagePoint, while exporting I selected GPS exchange file (gpx). All files are now .gpx files in a folder device not on my desk top,When I connect my Montana to my computer and open up BaseCamp my Montana is recognized along with the TOPO U.S. 100k maps, so far so good,Clicking "file" I get the drop down window, I then click "import" and navigate to the folder with all my files, I select one file and then receive an usb device not error msg "unknown error importing file" Any ideas ??I'm at a loss, this should be so simple.GreggMontana 650t Comments Boyd 1644 Points September 2011 You're right, it really should be simple. I have used Vantagepoint, but not for awhile. But I remember it as being really problematic so I'd immediately be suspicious of that. For starters, I would try to open the file in Mapsource and see if you get an error there. Download here:http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=209In Mapsource you would use the Open command for the .gpx file, and you will need to choose the "all files" option from the dropdown menu in the open dialog box. If it works, you can use Transfer > Send to Device with your Montana. If you also get an error this way, there must be some garbage in the file that Garmin doesn't like. GPX files can be opened with a text editor, but I really wouldn't know what to look for.Can Vantage Point export the file in some other format? If so, you could try that and then use gpsbab
