Replies Serrano OP tbird2340 Aug 17, 2012 at 1:47 UTC Oh, and the IP addresses it gives for "BAD_ADDRESS" aren't even pingable on the network.. 0 Mace OP Rockn Aug 17, 2012 at 1:49 UTC check your DNS and DHCP servers for conflicting entries. You should also set up scaveging on your DNS server so old records get purged on a regular basis. 1 Jalapeno OP GranPaGTS Aug 17, 2012 at 2:37 UTC Hate to start

with the basic question ... is this a new network or could the devices on the network have 7days + DHCP timeouts? What is the Scope of the DHCP range? Are there static addresses already set on that network? Are there VLAN setups that could be an issue? What is the client side saying it's IP address is? Is the network that the clients are attached to the same network that the DHCP server is on or is IPHelper used and not configured properly? Sorry if you have already thought of these. Best of luck. 0 Serrano OP tbird2340 Aug 17, 2012 at 2:37 UTC DNS looks fine.. Attached a wire shark. I do see a decline which not sure if that's normal or not.. 0 Serrano OP tbird2340 Aug 17, 2012 at 2:45 UTC Not a new network. I guess this issue has been happening for years (so she says).. She goes in every day and clears out the "BAD_ADDRESS" so users can get an address to get on the network.. Lease is limited to 1 day. Scope is 192.168.1.100 - 192.168.1.250.. Today I found that there was a wireless access point (not doing DHCP) with a static address of 192.168.1.250 so I changed the scope to end at 1.249.. No other devices that I checked had DHCP enabled (checked the router, the switches (that I knew of), the WAP, and other servers). There are static addresses for printers and servers and a few P

set up DHCP reservations for clients by MAC address. For some reservations, I'm unable to add them, receiving the error "The dhcp error 1053 specified address is not available". If I hit OK and try again, I'll receive "The specified IP address or hardware address is being used by another client." Sometimes after this, I'll see a nameless reservation for https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/251943-bad_address-in-windows-2008-dhcp-server the IP/MAC I made but it doesn't actually function. On the client machine that I'm trying to create a reservation for, the IP is stuck at 0.0.0.0. ipconfig release/renew doesn't help. This technet post by another user describes the problems I'm having: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-GB/winservergen/thread/ed7cb624-3552-43d1-a71f-2e94274dbe6c

Look through the DHCP leases and resevation and make sure there aren't any duplicates. Have you assigned any static IP address through the NIC in a machine or are they all done through reservations? If you have done it through the NIC, make sure that you are doubling up and putting a reservation for that same IP address for anther machine. 0 Poblano OP Christopher Tagliaferro Jul 19, 2010 at 10:47 UTC Craig, The only reservations that are set up right now are active and in good use. There are no other reservations (especially any that match the IP/MAC address that I'm trying to add). From the client, I tried using the IP as both static and dynamic but it wouldn't connect either time. 0 Tabasco OP Soule0913 Jul 19, 2010 at 11:11 UTC Just to cover a doh* moment. Solved Windows DHCP Server - BAD_ADDRESS issues Posted on 2011-12-31 DHCP Windows Server 2008 Switches / Hubs 1 Verified Solution 13 Comments 11,518 Views 1 Ratings Last Modified: 2012-05-12 I am running two Windows 2008 R2 DHCP server with which distribute a scope of 100 addresses total, 50 for each server. To perform a dhcp error switch update i had to shutdown both servers, after the update was completed and the server where back online the problem started. All the computer that already had an IP assigned are fine, all remaining IP addresses in the scope are reporting an error that "BAD_ADDRESS - IP is already in use" when I ping any of the addresses reporting the error I am not getting a reply, they also don;t show in the DNS database. I thought the issue would already in use go away if I wait for all leases to expire (1 day experation date for all IP's), but it did not. Also I am not sure what to make of the unique ID assigned to the IP's? Any ideas of what is going on here? The scope keeps getting maxed out so there are no IPs left. Have you configured dhcp from your firewall?or router? If you have Dynamic DNS or WINS you can check those for reverse registrations of the IP. Also nbtstat -a
