The primary surface error is a rendering issue; go to Start>Run and type "dxdiag.exe". Check to see if you have the latest version of DirectX ( latest non-Vista version is 9.0c ) by looking on the list that pops up; it is the last item on that list. The most likely solution would be to try upgrading your video drivers https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20071124015323AAJiXd6 and make sure that you have DirectX 8.1 installed. Rick1953, May 21, 2002 #2 lnnow123 Thread Starter Joined: Apr 29, 2002 Messages: 4 hi. thanks 4 the info. i already downloaded directx 8.1, and updated my drivers - although i'm not really sure about the drivers part: i downloaded the updated driver from SIS (the hardware manufacturer, but the zip didn't have a self-extractor, so i want sure what to do with it. anyway, i manually extracted c/windows/system. after running the https://forums.techguy.org/threads/directx-error.80689/ program i shut down, as recommended, and it's giving me some error message about _isdel.exe still running. i have no idea what the heck this means. i closed it and shut down anyway. now my screen is smaller.....and i still get that same message about the primary surface. i don't know if this is woth all the trouble, but i want to play it very, very badly. i appreciate anymore help. lnnow123, May 22, 2002 #3 Rick1953 Joined: Feb 15, 2002 Messages: 539 You have to let isdel.exe finish. Here's what it says about it from the InstallSheild site. "Isdel.exe was chosen as the default executable to run once the installation is transferred to the end user's system instead of Setup.exe" Rick1953, May 22, 2002 #4 This thread has been Locked and is not open to further replies. Operation requires the application to have exclusive mode but the application does not have exclusive mode." Fusion works fine if I launch it manually, even if xbmc is running in the background so I know that's all correct and it works fine on my XP setup. Laso I have the latest directx installed and dxdiag shows no errors. My problem seems to be centred around exclusive mode. Does anyone know a string or code I could add to the shortcut to make sure Fusion is launched in exclusive mode? It works absolutely fine if I launch xbmc in windowed mode so definitely a exclusive mode error a workaround would be to switch xbmc to windowed mode befor launching, is this possible?
