(June 2010) setup failing for customers displaying an installation error when it gets to point of installing the "redistributable packages". This particular problem directx error s1023 windows 10 has been traced to an issue with the Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package version 10.0.30319 (RTM). When the 10.0.40219 (Service Pack 1) version is already present on the system, the 10.0.30319 (RTM) version returns a failure instead

of a success as was expected. The work-around for this issue is straight-forward: (1) Remove the Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package version 10.0.40219 (Service Pack 1) from the system (both x86 and x64 if applicable). This can be easily done via a command-line with administrator rights: MsiExec.exe /passive /X{F0C3E5D1-1ADE-321E-8167-68EF0DE699A5} MsiExec.exe /passive /X{1D8E6291-B0D5-35EC-8441-6616F567A0F7} (2) Install the DirectX SDK (June 2010) (3) Reinstall the Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package version 10.0.40219 (Service Pack 1). On an x64 system, visual c++ 2010 redistributable package version 10.0.40219 (service pack 1). you should install both the x86 and x64 versions of the C++ REDIST. Be sure to install the most current version available, which at this point is the KB 2565063 with a security fix. This issue is also covered by KB 2717426 Note: This issue does not affect earlier version of the DirectX SDK which deploy the VS 2005 / VS 2008 CRT REDIST and do not deploy the VS 2010 CRT REDIST. This issue does not affect the DirectX End-User Runtime web or stand-alone installer as those packages do not deploy any version of the VC++ CRT. Windows SDK: The Windows SDK 7.1 has exactly the same issue as noted in KB 2717426. Windows 7 Service Pack 1 / Windows 8 users: The Direct3D 10.x/Direct3D 11.x SDK Debug Layers installed by the DirectX SDK (June 2010) are not compatible with Windows 8 or Windows 7 SP1 + KB 2670838. See this post for details on installing the correct version. Setup writers: If you are creating a deployment for your application and you are using VS 2010, it is recommended you use the Service Pack 1 version and not the RTM version to avoid this issue. You should also consider picking up the updated version of the DirectX End-User Runtime Package if you are deploying DirectX SDK components with your application, and of course fully un

I tried Googling, but found many different responses for how to deal with it and I'm not sure what to do. I have tried looking in the log files in C:\Windows\Logs. There are 2 log files, DirectX.log and DirectX_SDK.log. I do not see any noticeable signs of "error" or "failure" of any kind. In fact, the very last line in DirectX.log is: 11/04/10 18:36:27: dsetup32: Installation ended with value 0 = Installation succeeded Could anyone please help? Hootsworth New Member Hello everyone, I know this isn't the Microsoft forums or support page, however; I have scoured all over their website and directx sdk not a single solution has given me any aid. Since this is a required piece of software to do any developing on OBS with, I figured I'd ask around here and see if anyone has had any issues installing the DirectX SDK on Windows 7. Everytime I try to install, it gets to the post installation set up and then fails with the error S1023. I've done a great deal of searching and found directx sdk setup the most common cause for this error is the Visual C++ 2010 Redistributables being too new for the installer to run correctly. So, following that lead I uninstalled the Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable and then when that failed I uninstalled ALL instances of the Visual C++ redistributable. No effect, however. The only other thing I've been able to find and try are some Registry Edits from the Microsoft support page, also there, zero effect. Anyone else have any suggestions to get this horrid piece of software to install? Hootsworth, Aug 24, 2014 #1 Hootsworth New Member I think I have the solution, and I'll post it here for fellow travelers whoever have this painful issue. First, you'll probably encounter this issue as I did if you had to use the Microsoft FixIt utility to attempt to uninstall the VC2010Redistributable. It seems that having to use this leaves a couple of Registry Keys that causes the SDK installer to fail. http://blogs.msdn.com/b/vsnetsetup/...utable-has-been-detected-on-this-machine.aspx On this link, there is a short post at the bottom that shows you what registry keys you need to delete. Doing this should allow you to install the SDK properly. To be honest, it baffles me how this installer process could be so screwed up, but this seems to work. This is required by all of the OpenGL samples on Windows in order to add XINPUT-based game controller support. Common Install Errors While installing the DirectX SDK, near end of install you may get the following error dialog: Setup failed. Errors were encountered during installation of redistributablepackages. Please close all open programs and try running setup again. Ifproblems persist, contact DirectX Developer Support.Error Code: S1023 This error may occur because you have an existing, newer version of the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable installed on your computer when you go to install the June 2010 DirectX SDK. To resolve this issue, you must first uninstall all versions of the Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable before attempting to install the DirectX SDK. You can use one of the two methods to uninstall: Use "Add or Remove Programs" in Control Panel to uninstall the products. You may have one or both of the following: Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x86 RedistributableMicrosoft Visual C++ 2010 x64 Redistributable Or you can run the following commands from an administrator-level command prompt:MsiExec.exe /passive /X{F0C3E5D1-1ADE-321E-8167-68EF0DE699A5}MsiExec.exe /passive /X{1D8E6291-B0D5-35EC-8441-6616F567A0F7} After uninstalling the VC2010 redist products, you may then safely install the DirectX SDK. Once the DirectX SDK install is completed, you can then reinstall the latest Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable package.
