Could this be cause by CD-protection or faulty CD-writer? Nero cannot make image from CD. Is there another software that I can give it a try on? Thanks in advance. :(
 Adbot 1337 Our Sponsors Neowin Treasury 1337 Advertising Place your ad here Loading... If it is an image of a game cd-rom(s), then they are copy protected. image file can be burned onto a recordable CD/DVD disc using Image Burning Wizard or it may be mounted at an Alcohol virtual drive. Insert the source CD/DVD into a CD/DVD drive. Click on the Image Making Wizard icon or select "New" from the "File" dropdown menu and the following window will appear: Note: if you insert a CD/DVD disc after opening Image Making Wizard then you may need to right click the sessions/tracks list and select the Refresh option, this will make Image Making Wizard detect the disc you inserted and update all the disc details shown in the window. DVD/CD Device: Select the CD/DVD drive from the CD/DVD device list. Read Speed: Once the CD/DVD drive is selected, choose the reading speed http://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/240560-disc-read-error-on-alcohol-120/ from the down-arrow point (maximum reading speed is set as default). Datatype: Datatype setting works like presets, you only need to select the correct Datatype for the CD/DVD disc you want to read and Reading Options will be automatically adjusted to read that type of disc properly. You need to make sure what kind of Datatype the source CD/DVD is and select the correct datatype. If you are not sure which Datatype your source CD/DVD is, you can use the Data-Type Analyzer which http://support.alcohol-soft.com/documentation/english/imw.htm you can access under Device menu in Alcohol main window or by using this icon: Click on the arrow and select the option Data-Type Analyser, you will see the following window: Insert your Disc, select the Drive and then click Analyze to start Analysis. Then you will need to choose the Datatype in Alcohol according to the Scan result. Reading Options: In this tab you can set/change your image file name (disc label will be used as default) and also you can reach advanced reading options explained in detail below. Skip reading errors: The source CD/DVD may have scratches or dust on the reading surface. If so, errors may occur during the reading process. It is suggested to select the "Skip reading error" feature, whenever you wish to create an image file (*.mds) onto your hard disk drive. Fast skip error blocks (not every device supports this function): This option is mainly for special CD formats to speed up the image making process. Advanced Sector Scanning: Skips large blocks of errors, boosting overall reading speed. Read Sub-Channel Data from current disc: This option is for special CD formats, as some data is stored in the sub-channel of the disc. Before selecting this function, you have to make sure what kind of datatype the source CD is (refer to datatype dropdown menu below). Data Position Measurement: New copy protections like SecuROM 4.8x work by positioning the data irregularly on the spiral track of the CD.

If you need to burn a SafeDisc2 protected game the major consideration is the drive doing the copy; certain drives have certain characteristics that give them an easier time to perform SafeDisc2 copies than others. Such drives are described as being 2-sheep burners. Drives not disc read error quite up to the task (however capable of), are described as 1-sheep burners and heaven forbid, 0-sheep burners. So the first thing you need to do is to find out what make/model your burner is and if it is a 2-sheep burner or not. To determine your make and model of your optical drives; if you happen to have Nero Infotools installed, start it up and under the Drive tab, it will list all the relevant specifications and capabilities of your burner. The actual name of your burner is listed in the drop-down box at the top (those numbers before the name of your burner are important too!). You can get InfoTools from http://www.cd-rw.org/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/nero_info_tool.cfm Once you have determined tha name of the burner, head on over to http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/45121 to see if that burner is listed there or not. If it is listed there, it is a 2-sheep burner; if it is not listed there it is not neccesarily a 2-sheep burner but highly unlikely. Now if you have a 2-sheep burner head on over to http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/23699 to find out how to copy a SafeDisc2 protected game. If you are running a 1-sheeper than visit http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/36444 for the appropriate guide. Praetor, Apr 16, 2004 #4 (You must log in or sign up to reply here.) The methods covered include the CDFS driver, cooked mode, SPTI, ASPI, the SCSI port, and the MSCDEX driver. Explained is how to prevent cracker break-ins using protections based on nonstandard CD formats such as the CD driver and weak CD sectors. Information on CD functioning fundamentals and tips related to CD protection in a format free of math and assembling-such as data formats, the scrambler, the Reed-Solomon coder/encoder, the CIRC coder/encoder, and a weak-sectors generator-are also provided.
