You're not the first to miss the step that says you need to format Partition 3 [BOOTCAMP] even if you are using FAT32 in Windows XP. Start Windows Setup again, but this time, format the volume as directed.Nate Helpful (0) Reply options Link to this post by Eric3, Eric3 Oct 16, 2014 11:39 AM in response to Nathan Alden Level 1 (0 points) Oct 16, 2014 11:39 AM in response to Nathan Alden For posterity, here's what the hybrid MBR looked like after repartitioning with Boot Camp Assistant on Snow Leopard:$ sudo fdisk /dev/disk0Disk: /dev/disk0 geometry: 9729/255/63 [156301488 sectors]Signature: 0xAA55 Starting Ending #: id cyl hd sec - cyl hd sec [ start - size]------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1: EE 1023 254 63 - 1023 254 63 [ 1 - 409639]

Seriously though. I have a fresh 10.5 install. I have bootcamp assistant make a 32GB partition for windows then have it start installing. It does it's thing, then it gets to a: "Press any key to boot from CD. Disk Error. Press any key to restart" If I press a key when it's in the "press any key to boot from CD" part, it just reinstalls whatever piece of windows I had up until that point. http://forums.macnn.com/104/alternative-operating-systems/352250/boot-camp-disk-error-press-any/ This knowledgebase article: Mac OS X 10.5, Boot Camp: Windows XP displays "Disk Error" message during initial setup says that I need to format the windows partition before continuing with the rest of the setup process, the problem is I'm never offered that option. I'm following along in the document that boot camp has me print off. I've been looking through the apple discussion fora and noone there seems to have much of an answer either. So ya. fresh install of 10.5. 2.16CD2 imac. 2GBs RAM. any assistance? During the install process, the installer makes a few tweaks to the boot.ini file which tells Windows what source to boot from, in this case, the partial installation. It SHOLD tell you "Windows will now reboot. DO NOT select to boot from the CD." But it doesn't. You're nowhere near alone in this. I've been caught by this more than once, usually when I'm called away from the process and lose track of whether I actually got it started or not. I

Okay so this has been giving me problems for the past hour or two.. I just did a fresh install of Mac OSX 10.5.8 Leopard, and started bootcamp. disk error press I have a brand new copy of Windows XP Professional with SP2 so that shouldn't be a problem.. Well, I get all the way to windows being installed and it restarting, but once it restarts it says "Press any key to boot from CD" then four seconds later "Disk error, press any key to restart." Obviously any key doesn't work. Now I am aware that this is a formatting error. It should be formatting with NTFS but instead it formats with FAT32 and does NOT give me that option to change the formatting process. I can't really go out and get another copy of XP, because let's face it. This isn't cheap stuff we're dealing with. If you have a solution, it's well appreciated! Thanks in advance!! The formatting shouldn't matter as XP can exist on either a FAT-32 or NTFS partition. And, if you created a partition that was 32 GB or larger with Boot Camp, you have no other choice but to use NTFS

I've reformatted the machine with OSX 10.5 on a Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Here's how far I get: - Use boot camp to partition the drive, it then says to insert the cd, and I can press a button after the partitioning is done to restart and install. - after the restart occurs, the windows setup begins, and I install, there is a C drive (fat) and an option to install on this drive and leave it as is (or I can format as NTFS at this step), so I install on C as it is - after the install is done the computer restarts, immediately after the restart though I get a 'Disk error' message is DOS at the top left of my screen, directly after 'Press any key to boot from CD.." After first getting this error I tried installing windows again using a quick NTFS format, but got the same error w/ an addtional message about some missing dll afterwards, so I tried booting into OSX after this and restored the drive w/ boot camp, then tried again, but got the same error once again.. An idea what I can do to resolve this issue? Update Here's the error that I get when I format the drive as NTFS, instead of the 'Disk error': Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \system32\hal.dll Please re-install a copy of the above file. windows osx windows-xp macbook boot-camp share|improve this question edite
