If you know the drive is good, then the disk is bad. Either the data on it, or its optical quality. IMO, either of those can cause what you described. I recommend that you always verify the integrity of any large ISO download. Next, I recommend that you use the best quality disks that you can find. Now, that's harder to do because the best disks are not simply the most expensive, nor the most famous, nor in all the big department stores. But you can find them out or do experiments on your own. But it matters. P.S.: Drives and burners do go bad, you know. I've had them suddenly go over a cliff quality-wise. You can sort of monitor the quality of your disk products with a utility for that purpose. They're very

Knoppix 4 seems to try and boot, Says "Loading Linux...." but after a while I get: "Isolinux: Disk error 10, AX=4280, drive EF Boot Failed: http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=209417 Press a key to retry" I've tried booting with a number of different commands: failsafe, debug, expert, a few others, but always get the same message. Drives E and F are my CD burner and DVD drives respectively, if that means anything. Also it took me 3 trys to make the CD, the first two times failed when using CD-R media, the one that worked was using CD-RW media. I don't know if this has anything to do with my problem. http://knoppix.net/forum/threads/22923-CD-Won-t-boot-Disk-error-10-AX-4280-drive-EF Asus A8V mobo WD80 gig HD With 2 partitions 1 gig RAM 9600 XT 128 meg graphics card Athlon 3200 Plextor CD Burner Compaq DVD ROM Reply With Quote 03-28-2006,05:32 AM #2 Harry Kuhman View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message Administrator Site Admin- Join Date Apr 2003 Location USA Posts 5,434 Re: CD Won't boot: "Disk error 10, AX=4280, drive EF Originally Posted by Dood Also it took me 3 trys to make the CD, the first two times failed when using CD-R media, the one that worked was using CD-RW media. I don't know if this has anything to do with my problem. It very likely does, but not because CD-RW is better than CDR, rather because using a CD-RW forced you to burn at a slow speed. If you burned the CDRs at high speed then you went against the advice given in the downloading faq. --- Verifying of md5 checksum and burning a CD at slow speed are important. I read the FAQ and first tried to burn the CD-R at 4x speed, then 8x speed, neither worked. The CD-RW burned at 4x speed. Now, are you saying that the CD-RW that I burned successfully could be causing my boot problem? Reply With Quote 03-28-2006,06:29 PM #4 Harry Kuhman Vie
