How can this warning be resolved? This information applies to the following Operating System(s): - Microsoft Windows 2000 - Microsoft Windows XP - Microsoft Windows Server 2003 - Microsoft Windows Vista - Microsoft Windows Server 2008 An Event ID 51 disk error is a generic error for any type of error that is encountered when paging information to Input/Output (I/O). A paging operation is when the operating system either swaps a page of memory from memory to disk, or retrieves a page of memory from disk to memory. It is part of the memory management of Microsoft Windows. However, every disk access is not necessarily paging I/O. It is possible for applications to perform non-buffered I/O to access disk data. Another event viewer disk misconception is that it is not writing to the page file (Pagefile.sys), which the name implies, but to any type of data access. See Microsoft Knowledgebase Article Q244780 for more information. An Event ID 51 is similar to an Event ID 9 or 11. An Event ID 51 only occurs during a paging I/O. If this same error were to occur when there was not a paging operation, an event would not have been logged, which is unlike an Event ID 9 or 11. An Event ID 51 can be troublehooted in the same manner as an Event ID 9 or 11. For additional information see Answer ID 15055. Was this answer helpful? What does this mean? Do I have a HDD or IDE controller that's going bad? There are two hard drives in my PC, how do I find out which one's \Device\Harddisk2\D? #1 Cooky, Oct 3, 2010 Last edited: Oct 15, 2010 bankster55 Golden Member Joined: Mar 24, 2010 Messages: 1,124 Likes Received: 0 Could be a bad sector on the HDD, HDD regenerator will find them all - if present Heres the trial vers note the limitation this thing really works (tho anything in the HDD can fail - bearing, servo, controller chip, heads etc. http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Hard-Disk-Utils/HDD-Regenerator.shtml Takes a long time - run it overnight Note here I only had to go 45GB because all bad sectors were at start of HDD (Thank you power company for all that interrupted service) FWIW "paging" has nothing to do with pagefile Edit: Just noticed today they came out with a new version - 2011 Looks like it will be a lot faster http://www.dposoft.net/#b_hddhid (read "more info") You might want to do a quick memtest86+ 4.10 (just run one set of sequences thru) to get that possibility out of the way. http://www.memtest.org/ That you say does it every hour reminds me of another thread from way back that turned out to be due to external drive enclosure, or firewire useage. What is your exact 2 HDD setup? Th
