on a new "barebones" box. The hard drive (30gb, WD) is seen by the BIOS but as soon as Windows tries to load it gives me the: Disk I/O Error = 00002000 Failed to ArcRead the boot partition to check for a disk signature There is a similar error message with 00008001 but that is an IDE ZIP which is not the case here. Anyone had this problem? James, Dec 1, 2003 #1 Advertisements Ken Simmons [MSFT] Guest Hi James, This issue can occur if an IDE Zip drive is installed on the primary IDE channel as the master. RESOLUTION ========== To resolve this issue, physically disconnect or remove the Zip drive during setup. When setup finishes, you can reconnect the Zip drive. Ken Simmons [MSFT], Dec 1, 2003 #2 Advertisements James Guest Thanks, but I do not have a ZIP drive in the system. The only drive attached to the primary IDE is a WD 30gb as a "single" drive. >-----Original Message----- >Hi James, > >This issue can occur if an IDE Zip drive is installed on the primary IDE >channel as the master. > >RESOLUTION >========== >To resolve this issue, physically disconnect or remove the Zip drive during >setup. I don't know what it was about the WD drive that caused the problem but at least I can install now. >-----Original Me

Happy Xmas! I am not having a disk i o good one so far... Just finished building the new rig...tried to install Windows 2000 as usual and was greeted with two messages both saying "Disk I/O error = status 00002000" after the initial driver load, just before the disk selection screen. What does this mean? Anyone know the code? All my SCSI drives show up in the boot scan and the system seems fine... Oddly, one SCSI drive does not show a capacity as it boots but it reads fine in the utility screen.....could that be the issue?? I am getting depressed with this and I need advice!!
