Hello again. Recently I have been getting the message 'Disk or network error' when trying to open up a database. The database with the forms is located on my hard drive while the main database with tables are located on the network 'K' drive. After I got the disk or message I checked to see if the drive was down and I didn't have problem opening and looking at stuff. What are the main reasons for this error? Could be occur if someone is using the database at the same time? Or is this just an issue with the directory that is holding the database. Also, from my experience, it's best to map out to the full path name of the drive instead of the "Drive Letter" shortcut. I'm sure others will have additional ideas. __________________ "I know what you're t'inkin', ma petite. Now I don't have a problem getting in and I didn't change anything. Although a number of people using the application was having problems getting in as well. Someone had locked it up but I am not sure who. I am not sure if the locking occured because of the 'Disk or network error' or because someone exit the application wrong or something else. Eventually I got the LDB taken care of by telling everyone to get out. My DBA skills really stink sometimes. hammerva View Public Profile Find More Posts by hammerva 04-02-2003, 08:01 AM #4 jfgambit Kinetic Card Dea
down Access and restarting mde at client resolves it. Running fe.mde with be.mdb Access 2002. BE.mdb is on MS2003 server. FE.mde's on each client's WinXP SP3 machine. BE.mdb is compacted regularly, file size 20mb. FE is compacted before being distributed, and is 11mb. There are anywhere from 20-40 simultaneous users, each running their own FE.mde. Message can even appear when the workstation is at rest (user went to lunch and returns to find the message). There is an onTimer event that checks for inactivity and exits the database if inactive for 4 hours. Other than that, can't think what it could even be checking at the server if no one is at the machine. Not everyone gets the error. It is intermittent, and someone might get the message when all other users are fine. Appreciate your input. Slickdock, Mar 25, 2011 #1 Advertisements John Spencer Guest I would suspect network problems of some type. A "bad" NIC card in the relevant computer(s) or a bad network component. Is it always the same computers? If so, what do they have in common on the network - same router, same set of ports, etc.?
