Microsoft Odbc Microsoft Access Driver Disk Or Network Error
or network error. Nicholas Holland on November 14, 2005 One of our clients called and reported an issue with a MS Access database. The user was able to open a network based .mdb file, but when they tried to click on a switchboard button they received the following error message: "Disk or network error." There are many resources that deal with this error, but none of them provided the needed solution. The TMP/TEMP directories were set properly, the JET Engine was updated, and the .mdb file was not corrupted (verified on another computer). Through basic troubleshooting, we determined that this .mdb file had many ‘Linked' tables that were using a static network path mapped through drive E:. The problem was occurring on a new machine that I quickly noticed did not have a mapped drive ‘E:' because E: was assigned to a secondary CD-R drive. For this machine, access to the network drive was a UNC path. To remedy the problem, I had to have the MS Office XP disk to install the ‘Linked Table Manager'. Once this was installed, I updated all linked tables to use the UNC path and not the static E: path. To my relief, it corrected the ‘Disk or network error.' p

Recently I have been getting the message 'Disk or network error' when trying to open up a database. The database with the forms is located on my hard drive while the main database with tables http://blog.centresource.com/2005/11/14/ms-access-error-disk-or-network-error/ are located on the network 'K' drive. After I got the message I checked to see if the drive was down and I didn't have problem opening and looking at stuff. What are the main reasons for this error? Could be occur if someone is using the database at the same time? Or is this just an issue with the directory that is holding the database. Also, from my experience, it's best to map out to the full path name of the drive instead of the "Drive Letter" shortcut. I'm sure others will have additional ideas. __________________ "I know what you're t'inkin', ma petite. Now I don't have a problem getting in and I didn't change anything. Although a number of people using the application was having problems getting in as well. Someone had locked it up but I am not sure who. I am not sure if the locking occured because of the 'Disk or network error' or because someone exit the application wrong or something else. Eventually I got the LDB taken care of by telling everyo

Very seldom do we receive the error message all at the same time. I will have Access database open and it will have to be shut down and reopened. I also have Excel and Word open and those are not affected by this error message. Sometimes when we shut down Access we will get the error message over and over. There seems to be no real pattern to when the error message appears. Does anyone have any idea why we get this message and why it only affect Access and none of the otehr Offi

There is a single database file, calc.mdb, that gives "Disk or Network Error". If it is accessed by a user with MS Access 2003 installed, it runs just fine. However for our traveling users that access via the RemoteApp, then they get "Disk or Network Error". I have searched and just about everyone comes to a couple of conclusions: 1. It's a network error. 2. Recompile and/or compact it. It is certainly not #1 because I can verify that the network is fine. I have recompiled and compacted with no success (and besides you can open the database). From a client computer: A) Has no issue running another RemoteApp (such as Word, WordPad, or even another Access DB) B) Has no issue logging in via full remote desktop. C) Can run the database from Access 2003 locally installed D) Receives "Disk or Network Error" when opening via Remote-App. The event log shows nothing of any help that I could find. With all the various logs in Windows Server now, maybe somewhere else to look? It certainly seems related
