27, 2013, 12:07 AM turn the drive off let it cool down for a day. try and tap it lightly to see if it a stuck spindal arm. if not and the drive making noise or spining down...you waited to long to do a backup. you can try some high end recovry software or a data lab to rebuild the drive. if your real lucky the drive might have one or two more boot in it. Cool. I will have to check on it in the next few days (busy with the holiday) and try tapping the arm loose (if stuck). It was spinning when I first had it hooked up to the laptop, but still not recognized in Disk Management. Any idea on why it won't boot from the CD? I don't know of any problems with the optical drive. Could this be caused by a failing hard drive?Yeah, I don't know if the data on it is worth paying for the recovery services as I know they are expensive. Same for the rebuilding, lol, which sounds even more expensive. Related Resources Laptop HDD says error "A Disk Read Error Occur

Also, when my PC first starts up a get a blue Intel pentium screen, which never appeared before. It will not boot into Windows. This is addressed on IDE ATA drives, not SATA drives. For those of you having this problem, Here's your answer: Make sure that the black jumper in the back of your main hard drive is set to "MA" (MASTER) as abbreviated according to the schematics shown on top of your hard drive. (On the sticker at the bottom.) Any other drives that you have such as your CD-ROM, DVD-ROM must be placed as "SL" (SLAVE) as abbreviated on the back of them. (These abbriviated letterings are stamped in the metal or plastic part in the back, it can be hard to see, use a flashlight to get a good look at it. Those of you have different brand computers, need to get into the BIOS. All systems are different, some are done by pressing the F2 key, or the F11 key, others are the DEL key. On Compaqs and HP, uses the F11 key, Dells and other systems uses the F2 key. Barebone systems uses the DEL key. Once you are in t
