Hi When I try dell inspiron a disk read error occurred and start up my Windows XP I get this message "Disk read error occurred press Ctl+Alt =Del to restart. Every time I restart I get the same message. Does anyone have any ideas

There is a chance your hard drive is going bad, or it may simply be a corruption of the MBR, which can be fixed. The first thing to do is run the Dell diagnostics on your hard drive. In order to do this, you need to boot the computer to your Dell Resource CD. Boot to the BIOS (F2) and under boot devices, set your first boot device to be the CD drive. Pop your Dell Resource CD into the drive and exit the BIOS saving changes. If everything tests OK, then you need to repair the MBR. Load the Windows XP Reinstallation disc and choose Repair. In the repair console,run the FIXMBR and FIXBOOT commands.Then restart the PC and Windows XP shouldcome back up. Please p
