Loading Pbr For Descriptor
topic #1 hackeduser hackeduser Members 9 posts OFFLINE Local time:07:12 PM Posted 26 January 2009 - 09:43 PM Good evening, all. I have done a fair amount of searching on this topic and am at a loss. My PC is a DELL Dimension E310 desktop. I was removing some unneeded programs using the add/remove programs utility and the computer needed to restart. Upon restarting, the DELL screen came up, followed by a black screen with a blue band that says "www.dell.com." Below this, there is a line that says, "Loading PBR for descriptor 2... done." Below this there is a line that says, "A disk read error occurred," and below this, there is a line that says, "Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart." Upon doing so, the computer goes back to the 1st Dell screen, then back to the last screen mentioned. Can someone please help me get through this so I can at least recover the files that are one the hard drive? I am afraid to take any of the advice on various forums and websites because I have a lot of files that have not been backed up. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance! If anyone could please help me i would be so grateful, as the only person who can help me (who i live with is in hospital and i have no idea when he will be coming home) and i really need my laptop working. My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1300 and i have had it for a few years (not sure exactly). the only thing that me and my dad have done to it is add more memory. OK a couple of days ago, i decide to take everything ( i wanted to keep) of my laptop so i could restore it back to its factory settings. i then restarted my computer and pressed Ctrl+F11 which takes you too the restore to factory settings page (thats what i had read, so thats what i did). it asked me if i still wanted to restore or to reboot, i chose RESTORE. i pressed restore and confirmed it. once i had confirmed a bars came up and was loading. after that had finished loading, a box came up reading - The system recovery process was NOT successful. CAUTION: Do not manually shut down your computer. click finish button to reboot. so i followed the inst

I've searched high and low for possible solutions that may have worked for others, but not me. I'd like to boot to my Windows XP Home Edition SP3 CD so I can load Recovery Console, but result is a blank black screen after the brief message: "The system is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration." (No HDD activity) The system is a Dell Inspiron B130/1300 laptop, disk read with a hidden Symantec Recovery Disk partition that can be loaded, but none of the so called "recovery points" are found. (Not sure that any were created because that software was not activated) While in that attempted local disk access to the C: (windows install) drive tells me that C:\ is not accessible. The disk structure is corrupted and unreadable. Instinct tells me that the HDD is finished... but why won't the Windows CD load? I've tried multiple Windows CDs to no disk read error avail. Other CD's will boot. Something is fishy to me. guacman, Sep 28, 2009 #1 Mumbodog Joined: Oct 3, 2007 Messages: 7,891 Other boot cd's do not inspect your hardware like XP cd does, it is finding a problem it cannot deal with when detecting the hardware configuration. Here is an article on how to backup your data, I suggest doing it before all is lost. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/wind...backup-files-from-your-dead-windows-computer/ Mumbodog, Sep 28, 2009 #2 guacman Thread Starter Joined: Dec 7, 2001 Messages: 47 Thanks, downloading Ubuntu CD now. I've got the HD connected to another PC. Windows recognizes physical and logical drives, but cannot read corrupt volume. PC Inspector software doesn't find anything either. Will wait for download to finish and hope all works. guacman, Sep 29, 2009 #3 guacman Thread Starter Joined: Dec 7, 2001 Messages: 47 Ubuntu couldn't browse hard drive either. Bought a new hard drive. Reinstalled windows, drivers, etc. All is well, although data is gone forever. guacman, Oct 24, 2009 #4 This thread has been Locked and is not open to further replies.
