Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart Error Raymond Updated 4 years ago Windows 101 Comments When you have a problem while using your computer and you receive an error message during a crash, you're hoping the message will point toward the cause and then a disk read error occurred windows 7 it can be appropriately rectified. This doesn't always happen though and the message can be rather a disk read error occurred press ctrl+alt+del to restart generic and the fix isn't exactly a straightforward affair with a clear place to start troubleshooting.Unfortunately, there seems to be many errors you could

encounter on your system that sound straightforward but lead to the same problem, the error message isn't accurate enough for you to make a clear decision about what to do next. A while back I had a problem with

my computer, and after some odd things happening such as a CD-R failing a burn and the computer starting to respond very slow, I decided to shut it down and leave it for a while. When I booted it up the next day, I got the error message:A disk read error occurred. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart. However, the BIOS detected the hard drive just fine. After an exhaustive search around the Internet and forums, no one had the exact lá»—i a disk read error occurred fix for this problem and there doesn't seem to be one fix to try in preference to any others. What makes this even worse is there are so many different ways to attempt to fix this error, it could take days to get through them all. And to make matters worse, a disk read error might not actually mean there's a problem with the hard drive itself! Also there seems to be just as many software causes as hardware causes.Listed below are some of the possible solutions we came across to fix the "A disk read error occurred. Press ctrl+alt+delete to restart" problem.1. Test the MemoryThis isn't actually mentioned that much around the web as a solution to the disk read error problem, but believe it or not, this was my problem. I used a tool called Memtest86+ and ran tests on my RAM, and indeed there were problems. After experimenting between different sticks and RAM slots I eventually deduced my RAM slot 2 was damaged because the sticks worked fine in the other slots. As this is a simple and non destructive test meaning you're not touching the hard drive risking further damage, it is recommended you try this first. It may sound odd but in fact memory problems can be responsible for a vast array of different errors on a system where testing your RAM might be the last thing you think of.2. T

After applying the changes, the next (and still all) system boots fail with "Fehler beim Lesen des Datenträgers" ("A disk read error occurred - ctrl alt del to reboot"). I already tried out severeral things, e.g. boot from a "testdisk" tool boot-cd in order to analyze the "Intel/PC partition" structure. Looks not too bad from my opinion http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/disk-drives/f/3534/t/19226922 and also I'm still able to select and browse the partitions and folders (incl. C:-drive with my data :-)) from the DOS prompt. Nevertheless, windows is not starting at all. I assume a possible out-of-synch situation of my RAID1 system (mirror) ...? Does anybody have a clue what I should analyze next or again and look for? Many thanx for any help. Cheers,TomQuest Like 0 Reply You have posted to a forum that requires a moderator to approve posts before they are publicly available. Posted by tall_tiger on 21 Oct 2008 2:29 You can fix it with Norton Partition Magic I believe. You can start the system with that disc and then reverse the changes. Be sure and put the disc in the drive and then restart the system. Sounds like you are qualified to handle it if you got this far. Once the drive is back in one partition, that might fix the problem. Good Luck   Like 0 Reply You have posted to a forum that requires a moderator to approve posts before they are publicly available. Press CTRL ALT disk read error DEL to restart" error.Hi all together, updating the BIOS solved the problem on my Laptop!!! I have an old HP NX6325, which never ever had any problem! No single crash until now: A few months ago I replaced the hard disk, I went from 80G to 640G. Everything went fine, until some day the evil happend ... I was able to boot from CD (I allways have a BART PE available, see http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/) and saved an image of the complet disk to a external USB drive ("clonzilla live" is a great tool to create an image). - chkdsk didn't help - Reformating the hard disk (complete, no fast mode) didn't help - Fixboot didn't help - Reducing the data on the hard disk didn't help (reduced from 154G to approx. 133G) - Downloading and installing a newer BIOS version was the solution. The old BIOS was from 2006, the newest available version from 2007. Want to enjoy less advertisements and more features? Click here to become a Hardware Analysis registered user. The latest BIOS version from ASRock is v1.80 which contains Intel Matrix Storage Manager ROM v8.0.x.I also own 2 x 4TB WD HDDs and I want to set them up in a RAID1 array. The boot drive is a 1TB Seagate HDD. The OS is Win 7 x64 and was installed with "RAID" option for the SATA controller in BIOS and the BIOS version was the latest from ASRock: v1.80.According to Fernando's tutorials I modified the latest BIOS to replace the Intel Matrix Storage Manager ROM with Intel_RST_RAID-ROM_v11.2.0.1527, so that my HDDs would be supported.I flashed the new BIOS and everything worked fine. I could enter the Intel RST Utility (CTRL+I) and indeed the v11.2.0.1527 is flashed correctly and the size of my 2 x 4TB WD HDDs is seen correctly. The problem is that when I set the "RAID" option for the SATA controller in the modded BIOS, the OS does not boot: "A disk read error occurred. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart." The HDDs are in the right order. I'm not a noob. :)If I set the "AHCI" option for
