DMG images are practically unusable in a non-Mac system in that format. They can be converted to ISO images in Ubuntu for easy burning, mounting, or use in a virtual machine. Once you have the DMG file you want to convert to an ISO file, you need to how to use dmg2img install dmg2img sudo apt-get install dmg2img Now, assuming the DMG file you want to convert is dmg2iso image.dmg, run the following command: dmg2img image.dmg After a few minutes or processing, your DMG will be converted to an IMG file in ISO format (image.img).
Converting Dmg To Iso
If you need the ISO extension, simply rename the file: mv image.img image.iso Note: IMG files created by Nero are NOT in ISO format and cannot simply be renamed. If you want to convert a Nero IMG file to ISO, use http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/197403-converting-os-x-106dmg-to-iso-using-dmg2img/ the ubuntu utility nrg2iso, but it's not required above. Converts 3.5 GB DMG file into a 30.00 GB IMG file every time no matter what. Piece of junk. Use something else. #6 by Mike on June 28, 2013 - 10:41 am Have you tried on a different DMG file? #7 by Eric on September 12, 2013 - 9:27 pm One less step is to use -i for input filename and -o for output filename to go directly from DMG to ISO: "dmg2iso -i iATKOs_L2.dmg -o iATKOS_L2.iso" View mb243's profile on GitHub Follow Blog via Email Enter your email address to follow this blog and receive notifications of new posts by email. Next, read the package information page and the manual page to see if it is useful to you. The application seems to convert .dmg to dmg to iso a file that can be mounted using the mount command: dmg2img file.dmg imagefile.img From your Wikipedia article, the next command seems to be available to do that: sudo mount -o loop -t hfsplus imagefile.img /mnt In this way, the file imagefile.img is a result from dmg2iso and the contents will be available at /mnt. If the hfsplus type is not detected, you might need to load the kernel module for it: sudo modprobe hfsplus When done, you can unmount it by running: sudo umount /mnt share|improve this answer edited Feb 5 '14 at 11:21 minerz029 12.8k84479 answered Apr 29 '11 at 18:11 Lekensteyn 85.9k34220293 This will not work if the dmg file has 10.6+ compressed files in it. –HDave Oct 23 '13 at 20:14 2 I get this error - mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/loop0 –tuxdna Feb 5 '14 at 10:40 1 @tuxdna Do you really have a HFS image? Check the output of file file.dmg. You can also try 7z l file.dmg to list the contents. –Lekensteyn Feb 5 '14 at 10:55 I am using dmg2img v1.6.2. I ran dmg2img on mysql-5.5.28-osx10.6-x86_64.dmg which created mysql-5.5.28-osx10.6-x86_64.img, but it doesn't mount. –tuxdna Feb 5 '14 at 10:57 @Lekensteyn Thanks! Now it works. I've been at it for a few hours now trying to convert a dmg file so I can mount it. I've tried mounting the dmg directly, convert to img with dmg2img and then mount the img, basically tried everything I can find on the Internet about converting or mounting dmg files on Linux/Ubuntu. Always the same error when mounting, hfs, hfsplus, udf, iso9960, always get the error about incorrect file system, or bad block. I would assume the file is corrupt if it wasn't for the fact that every article I found about it people were having the same problems but none of them seemed to answer what the solution was. So anyway, now I'm trying iat to convert directly to an iso iat mac.dmg mac.iso It hasn't given any errors and after a long time output Detect Signature RAW 2 at 870193965 and it is still running. I'm not sure if that is an error or just some output I don't understand. My harddrive light is flashing and I see iat in HTOP using 100% cpu on one core but no file has shown up on my desktop and no indication from terminal if it is actually working. Has anyone used iat before and is it taking so long because it is a 7GB dmg file? It's been running for about an hour with no sign of life other than the hard drive light and cpu indicator. I should add that when I check the file with the file command this is all I get lotus@lotus-master:~/Desktop$ file mac.dmg mac.dmg: data lotus@lotus-master:~/Desktop$ Thanks dcsoldschool53July 11th, 2011, 09:30 PMCheck this web page out, maybe it can help you. http://www.ehow.com/how_5847479_convert-dmg-iso-ubuntu.html iansaneJuly 12th, 2011, 02:59 PMCheck this web page out, maybe it can help you. http://www.ehow.com/how_5847479_convert-dmg-iso-ubuntu.html I tried that method but something was going wrong in the conversion with dmg2iso making the file un-mountable. I switched over to my win7 partition(hangs head in shame) and downloaded dmg2img.exe and it converted the image correctly to an iso. One thing I did differently though was to use the command dmg2img mac.dmg mac.iso instead of dmg2img mac.dmg mac.img So it converted it directly to an iso instead of img. Looking at the dmg2img website there is actually a dmg2iso script for historical purposes that apparently was added into the dmg2img script. I'm going to try this method on Ubuntu and hopefully it works like it did on windows. Thanks
