Join Now I recently installed a new Windows 2012 R2 DC with DNS on it. In the DNS Events log, there are a slew of 5501 and 5509 errors. The problem is that all of my DNS events are missing descriptions like this ... The description for Event ID ( 5501 ) in Source ( Microsoft-Windows-DNS-Server-Service ) cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer, or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee783578(v=ws.10).aspx the local computer, or contact the component manufacturer for a newer version. If the event was saved from another computer or forwarded from a remote computer, you might have to include display information with the events when saving them or when setting up the forwarding s I have spent a good bit of time on this and all of the websites say that the program causing the error may need to be reinstalled. "65.2.44.228 is my Domain Controller and DNS ServerI've come across this one answer http://www.jsifaq.com/SUBG/TIP3400/rh3474.htm but, seing as my server is running win2k server SP3 it doesn't apply.the netbios and dns name of the server (and every computer in the domain for that matter) contain no special characters.any ideas? Well,Since you believe you haveno special characters I would turn on the part of Microsoft's DNS taht will allow it to accept any name in the DNS registrations as illistrated in the Technet article Q288176.
