IIS hosting my site (ASP.NET) is located on server server1. when I connect to my website http://server1.com/site/ eveything work fine. We decided to use DNS alias - supersite, which means, when I connect to my website using http://supersite.com/site/, this should be equal to first request. Command line ping command shows the same server - this is for sure. This doesn't happen. When I'm connecting with raw URL http://server1.com/site/, server responds correctly, when I connect using DNS alias http://supersite.com/site/, server returns: The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred. I tried configure more detailed information, I set up Error Pages -> 500 -> Detailed Error, I enabled Send errors to browser in ASP menu. Nothing helps. I think, that server doesn't connect to my website when I'm using DNS alias and all my attempts enabling detailed errors means nothing. asp.net iis dns share|improve this question asked Dec 17 '15 at 10:01 Fka 2,10221734 No document tells you the two are "the same". When you use a domain name in URL, the HTTP packets change with a different host name and IIS might dispatch them in a completely different way. So post your IIS settings such as sites, or any other info you can share. –Lex Li Dec 17 '15 at 10:42 Unfortunetelly no, I can't post you any screenshots. IIS server contains totally default configuration. I created new WebSite with only one Web Application inside. IIS version: 8.0.9200 –Fka Dec 17 '15 at 11:34 Then please avoid SO totally, and resort to Microsoft support via support.microsoft.com by opening a support case. They are good at teaching you how to use IIS correctly without leaking any info. –Lex Li Dec 17 '15 at 12:38 add a comment| active oldest votes Know someone who can answer? The issue I'm encountering is that even though the project builds without error I cannot preview the page in a browser. Both IE and Chrome return a DNS Error Page Not Found. Here's what I've done thus far after about two weeks of banging my head against the wall. Edited local hosts file to uncomment the 127.0.0.1 localhost line (the http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5212212/dns-error-page-not-found-using-cassini-and-iis-local-server :: line was already commented out as many blogs said it should be) Attempted using IIS Local Development Server instead of Cassini Disabled IPv6 (some articles I read suggested that it causes a conflict...I re-enabled it after it failed to remedy my issue) Reinstalled .NET 4.0 Recopied a fresh image of the VS from my other machine where it runs correctly Scoured Stackoverflow and MSDN for other possible solutions Does anyone have any suggestions as to what else I should try? PS - I'm using a Windows 7 machine UPDATE: I recopied the original project from the old machine to the new machine. The project built with errors but Cassini loaded the default.aspx page successfully. However, when I then fixed the reference to missing DLLs that are part of the solution the problem reoccurred. And interestingly when I then removed the offending references it still did not work. Could something in the referenced DLLs be causing the main project to break and not load correctly? I examined the source code (mostly logic for manipulating data) and don't see anything that would necessarily cause default.aspx not to load. asp.net iis windows-7 webforms cassini share|improve this question edited Mar 9 '11 at 13:38 asked Mar 6 '11 at 17:44 hughesdan 1,19453668 add a comment| active oldest votes Know someone
displayed" (Cannot find server or DNS error) "The page cannot be displayed" (Cannot find server or DNS error) There are several things http://info.ssl.com/article.aspx?id=10059 that can cause this vague error message. The most common reasons we have https://bytes.com/topic/asp-classic/answers/165671-asp-site-not-available-iis-6-0-cannot-find-server-dns-error seen are as follows: A firewall or router is blocking access on your network on port 443. The private key for your certificate does not match or is not associated correctly with the certificate. The DNS entriesfor the web siteare configured incorrectly. The web server is not configured to run dns error on port 443 for https requests. The web site is not the IIS Default Website and has not been bound to an IP address for https requests. (IIS defaults this to "All Unassigned") For further reading on this topic, check the external links below. Related Articles No Related Articles Available. ASP site not available on IIS 6.0 (Cannot find server or DNS error) P: n/a Laurence Neville I have just set up an ASP-based site to a new Windows 2003 SP1 server with IIS 6.0. Before now the site has run under IIS 5.0 on Windows 2000. Every time an ASP page is opened, IE shows the error: "Cannot find server or DNS Error". All static page types open fine (HTM, GIF etc) The confusing thing is - I have allowed Active Server Pages under Web Service Extensions in the IIS manager. No other extensions are allowed, other than ASP.NET. I have tried accessing the site from the server itself, from another machine on the LAN. I have tried using the IP address, server name and localhost in the URL. I have also removed the Virtual Directory the site lives in. None of these changes made any difference. Oh yes, I have also tried rebooting! What else is there to look at?? However, I don't think this has anything to do with the problem. Even a simple Hello World test ASP page like this one produces the "Cannot find
