Gourav Mittal July 2, 2012 Facebook Twitter Pinterest Stumbleupon Whatsapp Email I have been getting the error ‘The server can't be found, because the DNS lookup failed' when I try to open some websites (legit, of course). This happens only on my laptop and the site opens fine on other PCs. I use Chrome as my browser and I am able to access all other sites except some. I have tried clearing the cache, cookies and the entire browser history and checked on other browsers too but no avail. The strange thing is that if I change my internet connection, the site works fine and all the pages open correctly but as soon as I revert back to my original BSNL connection, there is a problem. Ourhome PC (Windows XP) and laptop, which are on a Comcast wireless router, cannot access one particular website which I need to access http://forums.xfinity.com/t5/Your-Home-Network/DNS-Error-Can-t-Access-One-Particular-Website-Problem-Only/td-p/690034 for my work. It is www.entrepreneur.com and when I try to go there using IE 6.0, my browser times out and displays a "Cannot Find server" / "Page cannot be displayed" error AND/OR jumps to a Google search results page, which displays Entrepreneur.com and its internal links at the top (which also don't work for me if I click on them). Google is not my homepage so not sure why that redirect is happening. I also just noticed that when I type the URL into Explorer, I sometimes get this message in the bottom left of the browser:res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm...I talked to Comcast tech support last night and the tech had me clear cookies and temp internet pages, and put www.entrepreneur.com into my Trusted sites list.Still can't get to entrepreneur.com Also chatted with McAfee and turned off all McAfee products and still could not access this website. (I hadn't noticed the DNS error when I talked to Comcast last night so maybe that's a helpful clue...)Also tried using Netscape and cannot get there. My husband has the same problem from his laptop (which uses Vista and I guess a newer version of Explorer). Mystery is other friends outside this house -- using both Comcast and/or McAfee, can get to the website. We used to be able to access it and I

I can ping the host and the ping resolves to an IP https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/631285-dns-not-resolving-one-website address. However when I try to do an nslookup I get a servfail response. Can http://www.howtogeek.com/forum/topic/unable-to-access-one-particular-website-from-any-browser-on-my-pc anyone give me a hint on where to start diagnosing this issue? Select the Start key and locate Notepad.Right click on Notepad.Select Run as administrator.Browse to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc and open the hosts file.Make the needed changes, as shown above, and close Notepad.Save xbox one dns when prompted. This may be too simple, but that's where I would start. 3 Serrano OP shark_this Nov 6, 2014 at 9:02 UTC nothing in the HOSTS file - its just the default one with the 127.0.0.1 address. 0 Pimiento OP jameslee5 Nov 6, 2014 at 9:03 UTC Guru MSP is an IT service provider. Did you first close all browser windows then open a command prompt and type "ipconfig /flushdns" ?? This will remove any prior resolution entries. Now in that box ping again - does it resolve? if so take that IP and paste it directly to a browser - does it show what is expected? If not then the IP is not correct. If so then the name resolution is the issue. As this is an external IP site (according to your previous post) then you need to make sure the external DNS server hosting said record is up to date and has accurate information. Can you share this external IP or name with us to troubleshoot from our connection/system? ~James 1 Anaheim OP Vegasuhn831 Nov 6, 2014 at 9:03 UTC When you ping the website, it should reply with an address. You can input that address into the HOSTS file and see if it will resolve with it's URL. *Run as Admin* 2 Pimiento OP jameslee5 Nov 6, 2014 at 9:05
The How-To Geek Forums Have Migrated to Discourse How-To Geek Forums / Windows Vista (Solved) - Unable to access one particular website from any browser on my PC (17 posts) Started 7 years ago by StevePaul Latest reply from StevePaul Topic Viewed 29399 times StevePaul Posts: 99 This post has been reported. A website I visit on a regular basis (www.three.co.uk) has suddenly become unavailable ... Network Error (tcp_error) A communication error occurred: "Operation timed out" The Web Server may be down, too busy, or experiencing other problems preventing it from responding to requests. You may wish to try again at a later time. For assistance, contact your network support team. I'm trying to access the site using IE8 Beta 2, Safari and Google Chrome and they all come up with the same error message All other site access is OK The site is available, as I can access it through another computer. My access is through a USB Mobile Broadband (Three) and I'm at Vista SP1 My Firewall is PCTools FireWall Plus and my AntiVirus is Avast4!, both are up to date .... I've run Malwarebytes and SuperAnti Spyware and both report there are no problems and I've used CCleaner and Eusing to clean the registry, From what I've read on the internet, I'm thinking I have a registry problem of some sort, but don't know where to look ... I'm hoping someone has some ideas ... Reports: · Posted 7 years ago Top ScottW Posts: 6609 This post has been reported. StevePaul, that's a new one -- can't get to your ISPs website while connected by said ISP! Can you contact Three and ask them to help? I can see the site from here in the US, so it's probably not on the server end. But, it could be anything between you and them. The other computer that you can access with, is it also using Three Mobile Broadband from your house? The usual suspects are the HOSTS file and DNS servers. Reports: · Posted 7 years ago Top StevePaul Posts: 99 This post has been reported. Hi ScottW long time no speak ... The other computer I used was at the local library so would have been a permanent connection through one of their servers. The man in India suggested running AntiVir (which I'd already done) and check my Internet settings (which I'd already done). Checked with Three to see if they were blocking me for some reason (they weren't). Final suggestion was to go to a Restore Point, but as I'm not sure where this problem occurred seemed little point in taking that option. Its really strange in that I've only just rebuilt my laptop having had a corrupted disk and totally reinstalling Vista and all my software. So really strange !! Reports: · Posted 7 years ago Top
