DNS not working but IP and nslookup do (XP pro SP2) Started by prdycool , Aug 21 2014 09:28 PM Page 1 of 4 1 2 3 Next » Please log in to reply 51 replies to this topic #1 prdycool prdycool Members 24 posts OFFLINE Local time:06:12 AM Posted 21 August 2014 - 09:28 PM I'm trying to get an older laptop up and running for school, but having DNS problems. I'm using XP professional with service pack 2. I can navigate to an ip address and nslookup works, but typing in a website name does not. I've been researching this online all day and nothing I've found has worked including: Virus scan (Malware bytes found 0 items, I can try again with other suggested software) WinsockFix Utility, also doing the same steps I think the software does by manually editing the registry and uninstalling/reinstalling tcp/ip protocol ipconfig /release ipconfig /renewipconfig /flushdns ipconfig /registerdns net stop "dns client" net start "dns client"netsh int ip set dns netsh winsock reset checked firewall and proxy settings I don't know what might have caused this issue unless it's a virus I can't find. Hardware should be good because I can access via IP addresses. Any other suggestions?
