in console Router: DNS Resolver failed to initialize; error ; DNSServer; Debug_DNSServer; NameServer; TCPIP; Parameters Technote (troubleshooting) Problem When server started, the error occurs as following. "Router: DNS Resolver failed to initialize" Cause The "NameServer" value in Windows registry key indicated below is NOT properly configured. Environment Domino 9 64-bit on Windows 2008 R2 64-bit Resolving the problem You can work around this issue by editing the Registry to correct DNS server settings. NOTE: The information in this technote is presented as a guideline for making changes within the Windows Registry. The Windows Registry is central to the operation of Windows, and any changes must be performed with care. As with any configuration change, it is highly recommended that customers have complete backups of computer systems and data files before attempting the following procedure, in order to facilitate recovery from system file corruption or other possible failures. IBM does NOT recommend that customers make changes to the Windows Registry without the assistance of Microsoft Technical Support. Further, customers who manually modify the Windows Registry may not be eligible for Microsoft Technical Support until Windows is reinstalled. Customers making changes to the Windows Registry do so at their own risk. 1. Launch the Registry (Start, Run, and type regedit). 2. Look for the Registry key identified as HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE-SYSTEM-CurrentControlSet-Services-TCPIP-Parameters 3. Confirm the "NameServer" string contains the correct IP address for DNS purposes; if it does not contain the correct IP address, enter it in that string. 4. If a change is made to the registry, restart the whole server to ensure the change takes effect. Juli 2005, 14:30 KB 1093164 You start the Domino for S/390 dns resolver failed server but notice the following message in the Notes Log: "DNS Resolver failed to initialize: DNS Resolver error." The message indicates a server problem related to address resolution to other systems and servers. On the S/390, Domino uses the UNIX System Services (USS) Language Environment (LE) DNS Resolver. The LE resolver uses the following files: /etc/resolv.conf /etc/hosts /etc/protocol /etc/services Note that Domino does not use any other information for address resolution. Domino as an application uses socket calls, such as gethostbyname(), which are processed by the LE resolver. Therefore, under USS, permission must be set to allow access to the files listed above, since the resolver code and other services that execute as part of the socket program allocate one or more of these configuration files to service these calls. Below is a sample /etc/resolv.conf file that works with both TCP/IP and USS; the directives that do not indicate a variable are shown with the standard values for those directives: TCPIPjobname [JOBNAME] DatasetPrefix [PREFIX] MessageCase mixed [SYSNAME]: HostName [HOSTNAME] [SYSNAME]: DomainOrigin [DOMAINNAME] NSinterAddr [IPADDR1] NSinterAddr [IPADDR2] NSinterAddr [IPADDR3] NSPortAddr 53 ResolveVia UDP ResolverT
