It's not enough to put the jar in the same directory - you need to add it to the classpath of the tool you're using. –Greg Kopff May 12 '13 at 5:55 2 package org.apache.pdfbox.pdmodel.PDDocument; Your package should not be the fully qualified name of an existing class! –Andrew Thompson May 12 '13 at 6:15 thanks andrew. i will remove it now. –user1952529 May 12 '13 at 6:30 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 6 down vote Putting the jar in the same folder or package does not add it to the class path. a Java web project. in my 'src' folder- I have the following two classes: 1) error package java.time does not exist package com.foo.model; //import statements public class BookExpert{ //some method implementation } 2) package com.foo.controller; import com.foo.model.*; public class BookSelectServlet extends HttpServlet{ public void doPost(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse http://stackoverflow.com/questions/16504603/solved-java-imported-package-does-not-exist response) throws IOException, ServletException{ //calling the model class BookExpert be = new BookExpert(); } } First, from my project root directory I compiled the model class: E:\SCWCD preparation\HF Projects\javaEbook>javac -cp "C:\My Tools\apache-tomcat- 6.0.20\apache-tomcat-6.0.20\lib\servlet-api.jar" -d classes src\com\foo\model\BookExpert.java But later when I tried to compile the controller servlet: E:\SCWCD preparation\HF Projects\javaEbook>javac -cp "C:\My Tools\apache-tomcat- https://coderanch.com/t/496550/java/java/package-exist-error 6.0.20\apache-tomcat-6.0.20\lib\servlet-api.jar" -d classes src\com\foo\controller\BookSelectServlet.java I got the following errors: src\com\foo\controller\BookSelectServlet.java:8: package com.foo.model does not exist import com.foo.model.*; ^ src\com\foo\controller\BookSelectServlet.java:25: cannot find symbol symbol : class BookExpert though the model class BookExpert was successfully built inside the classes/com/foo/model directory, still the controller servlet did not compile please anyone help me out of the pain i am suffering from the last night Steve Luke Bartender Posts: 4181 22 I like... posted 6 years ago You never add "E:\SCWCD preparation\HF Projects\javaEbook\classes\" to your classpath, so the package found at E:\SCWCD preparation\HF Projects\javaEbook\classes/com/foo/model/ can't be found. Feeling pretty lonely here! :-) Hi, I swear I'm doing everything correctly (AFAIK), yet Netbeans is giving me a "package X does not exist" error. My About window: Product Version: NetBeans IDE 6.7.1 (Build 200907230233) Java: 1.6.0_12; Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM 11.2-b01 System: Windows XP version 5.1 running on x86; Cp1252; en_US (nb) Userdir: C:\Documents and Settings\User1\.netbeans\6.7 I have a jar file I have placed as follows: C:\JavaClasses\GoldParserEngine\Bin\hawkins-java-jar-1.3.jar With the sources file here: C:\JavaClasses\GoldParserEngine\Source\hawkins-java-source-v1.3.zip In Netbeans, I added a Library named GoldParserEngine where the Classpath = C:\JavaClasses\GoldParserEngine\Bin\hawkins-java-jar-1.3.jar and the Sources = C:\JavaClasses\GoldParserEngine\Source\hawkins-java-source-v1.3.zip NOte: I did not compile this JAR file, but when I explode it all the Class file are there matching the source files, the class files have the package statement in them, and the package statement in the source files as well is: package goldengine.java; In the Properties of my Java Application, I clicked on Libraries and then under the Compile tab I added a reference to the GoldParserEngine Library. In the Main class of my Project, I start with the following lines: package AppelSample; import java.io.*; import goldengine.java.*; Yet I get an error that 'Package goldengine.java does not exist." What boneheaded thing am I doing wrong? Sorry, I'm a bit rusty on my Netbeans and Java... Thanks! When I type in... import goldengine. ...Netbeans auto-completes and suggests adding the 'java' onto the end. If Netbeans has no idea where goldengine is, how did it know to auto-complete with 'java'? Lastly, in another project I have, under the Project-->Properties-->Library-->Compile tab, there are two columns: Name (a description) and Package (a checkbox). Yet in the project discussed above there is only the single column for the name of the library. Why so? Back to top TallPaulJoined: 08 Oct 2009Posts: 5 Posted: Thu Oct 0
