Solved "Print processor does http://www.pcreview.co.uk/threads/unable-to-install-printer-the-print-processor-does-not-exist.1573737/ not exist" when installing printer Posted on 2003-11-04 Printers and Scanners 1 Verified Solution 12 Comments 65,106 Views Last Modified: 2011-10-31 My computer was working fine (meaning it needed to be rebooted a few times a week). does not After one reboot, I tried to print a document, but the computer told me I needed to install a printer. This surprised me, as I was sure that I had a printer installed. I proceeded to install the printer, but the auto-detect didn't work. I tried manual installation, but when I clicked on "Finish", I received the following error message: "Unable to install. Print processor does not exist." Neither the help system, not MS Knowledge Base does not exist could offer any clue as to what was going on. I tried some Windows NT solutions, but they were ineffective, as I have Windows XP. How did this start, and how can I fix it? (The last time the computer rebooted before this problem started happening, it went through a VERY long disk consistency check [I estimate 1-2 hours, or more; I went to sleep]) System Specs (all hardware fully updated): Windows XP (fully updated) Canon S400 printer Gigabyte GA-7VAX mobo AMD XP 1900+ 512MB PC2700 RAM 60GB HDD GeForce FX 5200 0 Question by:ThaPyngwyn Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 22 Best Solution byjvuz First uninstall the printer and its driver. Guest i have a two node windows 2003 server cluster. When I try to install certain Hp printers, i.e. hp4200 with the latest drivers i get unable to install printer. the print processor does not exist. This happens if i try to install locally, or remotely. Any ideas? Guest, Feb 4, 2005 #1 Advertisements bfinnick Guest I am running into the same error message too. I am installing an HP Laserjet 2300. -- bfinnick ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Posted via http://www.mcse.ms ------------------------------------------------------------------------ View this thread: http://www.mcse.ms/message1401040.html bfinnick, Jun 13, 2005 #2 Advertisements Xerolooper Joined: Jun 23, 2005 Likes Received: 0 If you are installing to 2000/XP/2003 try using the NT drivers for your device instead. You may then be able to install the other drivers after the printer que is created or under the Server Properties - Drivers tab. One possible problem is that the driver installs but the print processor does not copy over. Microsoft claims that this only happens on remote installs but I have experienced it both locally and remotely. (See article 835998 on Microsoft.com) I also remember reading another Microsoft article that stated there was an issue with the older drivers giving this error message on newer OS's or vice versa but I can not find it again. I will post again if I find it or let me know if you find it so I can show my boss. Anyway, I support about 600 networked printing devices mostly HP in a Windows 2003 server/XP desktop environment and this work around works for me every time. So good luck.
