Shifting may be only minor or may be dramatic. These errors are relatively common and widely collected. The above example, graded PCGS 30PPQ (Very Fine) sold for $50 Insufficient Inking misprinted 20 dollar bill Insufficient inking errors result from poorly or inadequately filled printing plates. As a result, the note displays an image that is faint or not fully complete. Like other currency errors, insufficient inking may be only minor, or may affect large parts of the note. Most errors of this type have insufficient inking of the 1st or 2nd printing. This Series 1963B $1 dollar bill cut wrong PCGS graded 64PPQ sold for $871 Inverted Back Inverted back errors might also be called notes with upside-down backs. This type of error is caused by a sheet being fed incorrectly (rotated 180 degrees) into the printing press for printing of the face (backs are printed first). Inverted back errors are not very common and command relatively high premiums. Blank Back or Blank Reverse A blank back error note is one that has printing on one side, but no printing on the other. These errors are often caused by two sheets being fed into a printing press at the same time. This complete blank back error was graded 66PPQ by PCGS and sold for $500 Double or Multiple Impressions Multiple impression errors usually display an image that appears “blurry” or “fuzzy”, and may occur when a sheet is mistakenly re-fed through the press after receiving printing, or a sheet staying in place after being printed and receiving a second impression of the same design. to exchange for newer dollar bills. One of the dollars he brought in wasn't ripped, but when I turned it over, the back of it was orange. I had seen this kind of bill only one time before. At another bank I worked at, a customer came in and told me about a bill he got from a job he had someyears ago, and it was a dollar bill with an orange back. He said the reason one side was orange was because one of the colors used in the pressing ran out (or something to that effect) and normally the treasury department destroys misprinted money like that. He said he had taken it to a dealer who handles rare currency and misprints and was offered $6000.00 for it, but he decided to keep it because he knew if this guy was offering that much, he could sell it to somebody offering more. I tried to do some research online for this type of printing error and the value of such bills. The bill I have is from 1969 and is complete, though it looks like it has been handled. So do I have a true collectible on my hand or was that guy crazy for not taking the $6000.00 offer? Numanoid09-08-04, 09:05 PMA good rule of thumb - when someone tells you a tale about them rejecting a huge payment for an item, and they still possess said item, they're full of shit. Now I'm not saying what you have isn't valuable, but I wouldn't go by some guy's story. Why not call a coin shop? BizRodian09-08-04, 09:49 PMGoing by what I know people will pay for even lesser defects, it could be worth something. If it is a real defect... it could be a common one, or one caused by something else. Look on ebay for bill defects and see what people are paying. You probably won't find your problem. There are also plenty of numismatic websites and forums out there. Ask there. calhoun0709-08-04, 10:01 PMOriginally posted by Numanoid A good rule of thumb - when someone tells you a tale about them rejecting a huge payment for an item, and they still possess said item, they're full of shit. For all I know that bill I got today is the same one he had and he spent it for food at the place that came in to change it because it was actually worthless. Not to mention that most misprinted currency is valued in the 300.00-500.00 range. And if I can't find something on my misprinted bill at Ebay, does that mean it's more rare and possibly worth more? BizRodian09-08-04, 10:05 PMIt could... it could not. Try a numismatic website. Numismatics are odd people, and varied. Someone might be very interested in your kind of bill... or it could be nothing.
