I just purchased doom 3 on steam for ten dollars, installed it, and when I try to play it, a small blue screen pops up with a "couldn't load default.cfg" error, (whatever that means). I was really looking forward to playing this game. Does anyone know how to correct this?

I have found my way to The Dark absolute hd mod Mod via the excellent fan missions on TTLG which in itself I stumbled across only a few weeks ago. I got hold of a genuine version of DOOM 3 from Amazon very cheaply last http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2258261 week but have encountered problems when attempting to patch with the 1304 update (Couldn't load default.cfg). I do note that my DOOM 3 is a EU manufactured set and I get a warning at the outset of the options in the setup for the patch something about being "cannot identify the version of DOOM 3 installed" and if I am not running the English version then to http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/13525-patching-doom-3-problem/ "select the appropriate localisation component" during the patch process (none of which make the slightest difference of course). I am loath to ask for help with a first post but having trawled the web and fiddled with the setup as best that I can, I am still stuck and would love to run the Dark Mod missions (DOOM is just not my type of game). Any suggestions and assistance gratefully appreciated. Here is the error messages I get with Win XP Pro SP3, AMD Athlon 2.4+, 1.5Gb RAM, runs Thief DP,TMA, T2X and all Thief FM's seemlessly. You have to install the NVidia or ATI drivers to do that - just use Search and... well, you'll get lots of hits, so it'll take some digging though them.
