Duplicate Class Netbeans
Posts: 54 posted 10 years ago The problem here is NOT the fact that you have the class defined in two jars. When you have the same class in more than one jar, the classpath mechanism will ensure that the first one is used and the second one is ignored silently, so this is not your error. The problem here is that you have source for the same class/package in more than one location/directory trying to get compiled in the same task. Srikanth Raghavan Ranch Hand Posts: 389 posted 10 years ago I apologize for not reading the question properly. I guess Matt is right. Sorry for misleading. Description debopamg 2011-04-22 05:12:46 UTC Product Version = NetBeans IDE 7.0 RC1 (Build 201103280000) Operating System = Linux version 2.6.35-28-generic running on i386 duplicate class error Java; VM; Vendor = 1.6.0_24 Runtime = Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM 19.1-b02 There was a git merge conflict, and after resolving it (outside the IDE, using Meld), I find that the IDE is reporting the conflicted class as Duplicate class. In fact, the introductory Java forums are filled with threads starting with questions about these areas of Java. In this blog post, I look at some of these errors and some of the causes of these errors. One of the more obvious errors occurs when a public Java class is named differently than the file that contains the class definition. This is demonstrated in the next screen snapshot. In this example, a class was declared as public with the name Person, but was saved in a file called Person2.java. The error message is pretty explicit: "class Person is public, should be declared in a file named Person.java" The "duplicate class" error can sometimes be a little more tricky to resolve. One situation in which this occurs is when two source code directories include the same class with the same package structure. This error looks like that sh
