You use either Summit>Drawing File Toolbar>"Load Polylines and Points from Vector Files" or Summit>Drawing menu>File>Load Objects. You load a DWG file, but receive an error message: "DWGdirect Exception Invalid file version": Cause: The DWG file format is too new for the third-party vector file conversion library used by DAT/EM software. Solution: Open the DWG file in AutoCAD. Select AutoCAD>File>Save As. Set "Files of type" to "AutoCAD 2010/LT2010". Name the file and save it. Try Summit>Drawing File Toolbar>"Load Polylines and Points from Vector Files" again, but this time load the AutoCAD-2010-compatible DWG. Cause: It is a GDL limitation at the moment in ARCHICAD Solution: Workaround - Set up the DWG translation setup, so the AutoCAD blocks become simple 2D elements instead of Library Parts. ArchiCAD Template and DWG Translator Problem Issue: A DWG file exported from ArchiCAD might have different content than the ARCHICAD file. Cause: It might have happened that the file was saved as DWG using a template DWG file created by ARCHICAD. Solution: Use template DWG saved only from AutoCAD or if it's necessary, use template saved from ARCHICAD only if it does not contain any elements. DWG Saved from Layout Does Not Open in AutoCAD Paper Space Issue: When a DWG is saved from the layout book of ArchiCAD it will open up in model space in AutoCAD instead of paper space. Cause: At present this is a limitation in ArchiCAD by design. Solution: After opening the DWG in AutoCAD switch to paper space manually. AutoCAD displays alert when opening DWG files written by ArchiCAD: This alert is displayed when AutoCAD detects that the DWG file you are trying to open was not created by an Autodesk product or a product that licenses Autodesk's RealDWG developer kit. ArchiCAD uses the DWGDirect libraries to write DWG format files. DWGDirect is based on the OpenDWG Design standar
