According to the support page detailing the warranty extension, owners of newer consoles shouldn't need to worry as Microsoft has "already made improvements to the console that will reduce the likelihood of an occurrence of this issue." As well as extending its warranty to cover impending E74 failures, Microsoft is promising to refund any customers who have already paid for out of warranty repairs, advising that: "Those customers should automatically receive the refund within 4-12 weeks, and no additional action by customers should be necessary." dev April 15, 2009, 3:40 pm I have to say, while it is unfortunate that so many errors are still happening, kudos to MS for being so open and honest and extending their warranty to cover it...there are not many who would. On a side note, over my 5 days of easter holiday, i was unable to play video games as my frickin xbox RROD :'( Coffee_With_Bailey's April 15, 2009, 3:55 pm My launch 360 is pretty quiet and super-reliable... I guess people only bang on about bad experiences and keep silent when things are good.If my 360 goes pop out of warranty, I'd have no reservations in buying a new one and after all this time, there's still nothing much on the PS3 to lure adult gamers away from the 360's deeper and broader software catalogue. And like Dev said - good on MS for looking after their consumers... I wouldn't be too surprised to see further extensions & changes to the support offering as the installed based of 360's matures further. rav April 15, 2009, 5:44 pm @BaileyI totally agree. Had my mate's 360 for ages and had to get it fixed under warranty when it red ringed. While MS messed up with the hardware at least their service was spot on when it came to the repair. It was picked up from my door and returned back in two weeks at noRecommended Games Videos Digital Foundry Release Dates Guides Forum Loading... hold tight! KinjaToggle Conversation toolsGo to permalink For a few months now, Xbox 360 users have been quietly venting about a "new" hardware fault with the console, where instead of displaying three red rings, machines would show an "E74" error. Just because it didn't flash the iconic red rings, though, doesn't mean it wasn't bad! Which is probably why Microsoft have decided to issue an extended warranty for the fault, similar to the one offered to red ring sufferers.
