Internal Mail Flow With MS Outlook 2007, there is facility to block certain email addresses or domains for message delivery to the junk mail folder. The list of addresses that is filtered for safe for messaging is called “Safelist”. With Exchange 2007 edition, the Safelist Aggregation feature enables the Hub Transport Server to accept incoming emails from addresses that are added in the safelist, without need for the admin manually adding the exception. The safe sender list of Outlook is added to Edge Transport Server ADAM database from Active Directory using the EdgeSync. The Edge Transport Server cannot make direct contact to the Active Directory. To access the safelist and recipient lookup, it makes a contact with EdgeSync that replicates this information from AD. For acquiring the safelist information fromActive Directory, following PowerShell command has to be run on the Hub Transport Server: Update-Safelist. This command will help to read the safelist and then uploads it to the EdgeSync for further usage. External Mail Flow Exchange 2007 and later editions have Role-Based Access Control where every mails travels through Hub Transport Server. When an Edge Transport server is set, send connector is automatically installed and every mail leaves through this connector. Likewise, Receive Connectors can be set up that defines a gateway for mails that can enter the network. For every Server, a send connector is installed that takes the control of how an email is received from internet, external servers, or email clients. The receive connectors for the internal mail flow is installed by default and
