I am getting the following alert message:Application Launch FailureThe application "Entourage" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "C"I have verified disk permissions and restarted, but the problem is still there. I have also followed the isolation steps recommended at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1710, so it looks as if the only solution is to archive and install Mac OS X. However, after several office moves, I have mislaid the Install Discs. Is there another way to clear this problem quickly, without having the Install Discs?Richard Halliday PowerBook G4, Mac OS X (10.4.11) Posted on Oct 24, 2008 4:56 AM I have this question too Close Q: shared library error All replies Helpful answers by BDAqua, BDAqua Oct 24, 2008 12:18 PM in response to Richard Halliday Level 10 (123,775 points) Oct 24, 2008 12:18 PM in response to Richard Halliday Hi Richard, and a warm welcome to the forums! The other day I started up my mac and had an "Application Launch Failure" pop up. Here is the warning: "The application "Entourage" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "7<>" So, I tried https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1764868?tstart=0 repairing my permissions, nothing. I tried booting from the restore CD and repairing the disk, nothing. I tried using OnyX and nothing. I booted in safe mode and still nothing. I tried trashing my Microsoft preferences and no go. So I am in a pickle. It seems that I can not start any Microsoft Office program, Photoshop, or Illustrator. I have a PowerPC G5 dual 2 GHz with 3 gigs of ram http://forum.maccast.com/index.php?/topic/9384-shared-library-error/ running 10.3.9 Any help would be appreciated, thanks! -Tony Back to top #2 car1son car1son Meta Mac Geek Members 545 posts Gender:Male Location:Phoenix, AZ Interests:Sleeping Posted 25 September 2006 - 05:07 PM That's probably a problem with your MS Office installation, not OS X.MS Office isn't one of the things the OS X "Repair Permissions" fixes. Is this MS Office v.X or MS Office v.11 (Entourage X or Entourage 11)?You could try: Back up your Entourage data ("~/Documents/Microsoft User Data" folder.) Check that you still have the MS Office / MS Entourage license key available. Uninstal MS Office (be sure you backed up first, this might remove your user data. I think there's an uninstall option to keep the user data/) Reinstal Office. (This is what you need your old license key for.)Make sure you still have the MS Office (or MS Entourage) license key written down someplace before you uninstall.Last time I saw that message, it was because I didn't have write permission in some of the "Applications/Microsoft Office X" folder (specifically the "Office" and "Shared Applications" sub-folders. (It might also be cured using Terminal and a recursive chmod to force W access for your user account throughout the MS Office application folders.) There are essential files such as "MS Framework X".
