We find "Error 0" commonly occurs when there is a previous installation of MySQL on a Windows machine, or even hidden file remnants of an earlier MySQL installation. It is easy to conclude that a previous installation of MySQL has been completely expunged from your system, but one has

to maniacally hunt down and extirpate all old configuration and data files before the MySQL Server Instance Configuration Wizard will install a new MySQL database and start the Windows MySQL service. We recommend that you try the these steps if you see this error. One user found that the following worked. We suggest trying this first. 1. Cancel the configuration step. (If you haven't already). 2. Go back to the configuration wizard on the program list (newly installed.) Follow the "reconfigure" option. 3. Uncheck the "modify security settings" box and reconfigure without changing the password. Make sure the password is blank. 4. When you click "finish" on the final screen, the service fails to start. Click "cancel" and restart the configuration wizard. Reconfigure in the same way as before, but check the "modify" security settings" box and leave the "current password" field blank and fill in and confirm a new password. This time the service starts, security settings are applied, and MySQL works… hopefully. In house, we found the following was successful. 1. Cancel the configuration step. (If you haven't already.) 2. Start up the configuration wizard. Dele

After reading many forum posts, it appears that there is no definite answer as to how to solve the problem. However, error 0 I finally came across a method that worked for me, and hopefully it will work for you. The OS in this scenario is Vista 32-bit. The Problem The problem is MySQL did not properly uninstall. Remnants of MySQL still exist on your computer, and the configuration wizard can not create a new MySQL service because of this. An indication of this is the fact that while you were trying to reinstall MySQL, you may have been prompted to cannot create windows enter your "old password." A brand new configuration doesn't ask for this. The Solution Step 1)If MySQL is still Installed, run the MySQL Server Instance Config Wizard. (Should be found in your start menu under MySQL) Step 2)Select "Remove Instance". Step 3)Click Execute, and once complete, click finish. Step 4)Open the Command Prompt Step 5)Type in sc delete mysql into the command prompt. If it fails, that's fine. Step 6)Uninstall MySQL Server 5.X via the control panel. Step 7)Open the C:\ directory. Step 8)Make hidden folders visible. You can do this by pressing alt to bring up the menu, then go to Tools -> Folder Options. Click the View Tab, and look for "Hidden files and folders." Then click "Show Hidden Files and Folders". (If you need more guidance on making hidden files visible, you can visit the Microsoft tutorial.) Step 9)In you C:\ drive, you will now see a folder named ProgramData that was not visible before. Open it. Step 10)If you see the MySQL Folder, Delete it! Step 11)Check the C:\Program Files directory. If you see a MySQL Folder, Delete it! At this point, I was able to run the MSI Installer again and install MySQL normally. Fresh Ideas Hi there! This is my old blog, I don't hang around here much. You can now find me trying to mix things up here: Visit WoodyHayday.com Subscribe To My Email List Cannot Create Windows Service for MySQL. Error:0 April 1, 2009By Woody If you have MySQL installed (from XAMPP or otherwise) on an xp box (this ones x64) and you update to SP2 it seems to break the mysql service - at least it did for me. This has happened several times to me but is actually easily resolved. Firstly I tried re-installing mySQL but this brought the problem "Cannot Create Windows Service for MySQL. Error:0" when trying to install the actual service post install. To get over this you need to wipe the service out so MySQL can recreate it. Make sure you have admin rights on the box and go to CMD and enter: sc delete mysql That should delete the service, then if your in XAMPP just restart the service from your control panel and it will pop up allowing you to add a firewall rule. If you arent using XAMPP simply reinstall mysql after uninstalling/deleting service as above. This entry was posted in Uncategorized. Bookmark the permalink.
