Use a line continuation to apply the attribute to the following statement. C:\inetpub\wwwroot\autogalleries.ca\App_Code\LoadCarsService.vb 12 44 http://localhost/autogalleries.ca/ I've tried rearranging the pieces of code, and it always gives me the error in reference to the ending "> _" bit of code, but its always of the LAST of thesedeclarations, no matter what order they're in. Does anyone know why this would be happening? I assume also that the span tag is not part of the source code but a copy/pastediscrepancies in this post... Use a line continuation to apply the attribute to the following statement. Is it actually treating the whitespace/commented-out line as an actual line? Generally, when I gripe about VB.NET, http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3121609/does-vb-net-not-allow-line-continuations-over-commented-out-lines I preface it with, "Now, I wouldn't want to be the guy writing their grammar, but..." This seems like one of those cases where I don't know the answer, if I'm right. But I do know want to know the answer, in this case. vb.net syntax share|improve this question asked Jun 25 '10 at 21:36 Marc Bollinger 2,40611730 1 This is one of those things we've been asking Microsoft to fix for years. Maybe someday... –Jonathan Allen Jun 26 '10 at 5:37 I think you can safely comment out the line if you add a _ before the '. So just type _ ' instead of ' at the beginning of a continuing line when you want to comment it out. (Not sure if _' works.) –Rory O'Kane May 14 '13 at 5:29 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 3 down vote accepted Yes, as far as I understand it, the problem is that your first line continuation adds the commented out line as part of the first line, and then the line continuation character on the commented out line is ignored since it's part of a comment so it ends up being: ' _ <-- this line continuation character is ignored since it's comment
