My game has several levels which I am storing the data in a plain old text file. In VS 2008 when I add the level file to the project and compile, I receive the following error message. Error 1 Cannot autodetect which importer to use for "Levels\0.txt". There are no importers which handle this file type. Specify the importer that handles this file type in your project. F:\Projects\BrickBreaker\BrickBreaker\Content\Levels\0.txt BrickBreaker The reason I am bringing this out is because if I change on of my levels and run the game, the level is not updated. I have found that the level is not updated because VS runs the game from the bin\debug folder and since the level files are not included in the project, they are not copied when they change. I also found that the platform sample that comes with the framework includes the level data in the project, that's where I got the technique from. So, should I use a different file format or just deal with having to manually copy the new level files over? Resolution - After digging into the answers on this post I found a solution. I added the text files to the project and set the build property to none. The error no longer occurs when compiling and the file is included in the project. frameworks xna level share|improve this question edited Nov 13 '15 at 13:56 Brian Tompsett - 汤莱恩 3,093122775 asked Aug 5 '09 at 16:47 user151190 3828 I would include the levels in the project. –Nifle Aug 5 '09 at 17:36 You probably need to configure the levels text files as a dependency of the project or any of its modules. It would be easily done

There are no built-in importers or processors for .bin files, so unless you've defined some yourself, XNA can't figure out what you want to do with this file. In Visual Studio, click on your test.bin file and view its properties in the property window. There should be entries for the content importer and processor. Make note of those values, then select your test1.bin file and make sure it's using the same settings. Note that, if you're reading the raw data manually -- in other words, if you aren't using a ContentManager to load this file -- you need to set its Build Action to None and Copy to Output Directory

[closed] up vote 1 down vote favorite I'm writing an XNA 4.0 game and use Spine for animation. Until now, I've been making spritesheets with Spine and using them with a custom animation class. I recently discovered there is an official Spine runtime for XNA. I've been trying to error 1 cannot use it but encounter an error. The closest I've come (after adding the runtime's classes to my project) is this error: Cannot autodetect which importer to use for "data\goblins.atlas". There are no importers which handle this file type. Specify the importer that handles this file type in your project. Is there such an importer in the runtime and I simply missed it? If so, how can I get XNA to recognize it? If not, is there an alternative? xna c# xna-content-pipeline visual-studio spine share|improve this question edited Mar 18 '14 at 22:42 Anko 11.2k84466 asked Mar 18 '14 at 21:18 cyane.spark 235 closed as off-topic by bummzack, MrCranky, Seth Battin, Josh Petrie♦ Apr 7 '14 at 16:41 This question does not appear to be about game development within the scope defined in the help center. If this question can be reworded to fit the rules in the help center, please edit the question. 1 Does the example in the repo work? –Anko Mar 18 '14 at 21:58 1 Nope.
